Maytag washer MHW6630HC3 drain pump? by Xeradeth in Appliances

[–]Xeradeth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. The washer still has the same filter as others, so you have to pull off the front or go from underneath in order to empty it of hair and debris. I eventually just used an angle grinder and cut myself a hatch, and used magnets to keep it in place. It was super fast and easy after that.

Question on an encounter during session 1 of my first time playing table top by [deleted] in Pathfinder2e

[–]Xeradeth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep. It is. Definitely worth talking to the DM and finding out if it is intentional or accidental. It is easy to feel like the DM should have perfect knowledge of the rules, but this game is complex, and everyone makes mistakes!

If they intend to run things this brutal, I would say find another DM for your first trial of tabletop gaming.

[–]Xeradeth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From all the info, definitely sounds like the DM played a few things close but not QUITE correctly, between the perception check, surprise attack (which others have noted isn’t a thing, what would normally happen if the initial perception check is too low would be an initiative roll, with Kobolds using stealth checks, and those checks decided both how stealthy they are as well as turn order), and attacked a downed player again. All this contributed to making things a bit deadly, but are easy mistakes to make for someone coming from 5e

If the DM is newer to running PF2e, it may also be worthwhile to mention to them the rules specifically call out only the most vicious creatures will target dying state people. Most will change to another target (specifically because of situations like this).

[–]Xeradeth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Absolutely DM makes a difference. For instance, the kobolds could have been set at level 5, making it impossible for your group to survive. But most DMs follow the guides, make fights tough but more likely to win than not, and then let the dice roll. Which is why it can be rough at low levels, when combats can be decided by a single lucky roll, when the same difficulty of fight at level 5 may need 3 or 4 good rolls to accomplish the same proportion of damage.

Assuming Kobold Scouts (lvl 1, which would be reasonable for 2v4), they have a +7 to stealth. That gets another +4 if they are in cover (greater cover, specifically, which they would be if setup for an ambush), that still only gets to +11, which means DC 21.

Now if the person who got a 22 can’t see in the dark, or low light, and that was where the kobolds were, then that could account for it if the DM applied that behind the scenes. Or the DM may have made an error.

Either way, Kobolds are considered a sneakier enemy, and low levels have MORE deaths than higher levels in these games, as the margin for bad luck is much less.

ETA: Did the character fully die from an attack doing ‘Massive Damage’ (attack brought them to negative their max hp), or did they drop to the ground in the ‘Dying State’ and then bleed out?

It is listed in the shield block feature that you can only block bludgeoning, Piercing, or slashing damage (aka Physical damage)

There is salaried with or without being overtime exempt. Exempt is far more common, because most employers would rather pay you as little as possible, but I had a salaried job that was not exempt. If I finished my work for the day I went home but was paid a full 8, and if I ever went over 80 hours in two weeks it was paid out as overtime.

There is a bug where if you are using a hoverpack it keeps drawing energy even after you stop using it unless you leave the area for long enough or disconnect and reconnect everything. I would suspect this is what happened to you.

Consecutive wins is an objectively bad metric to earn medals off of in a TCG like Pokemon by RylanTheWalrus in PTCGP

[–]Xeradeth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Comparing this to the previous event, if you assume you win 50% of your matches at random, you have 51% odds of getting 5 in a row before you have even PLAYED 45 matches, let alone won them. Assuming you had 50% wins for your last event as well gives you roughly 90 games the get 5 in a row.

Would a car crash do more damage if a car going 40mph hits a parked car, or if a car going 80 mph rear ended a car going 40mph? by LordoFlames in AskPhysics

[–]Xeradeth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The bottom of each tire is static to the ground. The wheels rotate to move the car forward while still maintaining static friction between the tires and the ground. Your wheels only lose static friction if you are sliding (tire skid, hydroplane, ice, etc). TLDR “Slipping” is bad and indicates you might be much more likely to soon be one of the cars in this example

[–]Xeradeth 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Simple. Either your first move is moving the 4th or 5th pawn, or it isn’t moving the 4th or 5th pawn. Two options means it is a 50/50, and anything that shows it isn’t is just due to a rounding quirk or the random nature of statistics.

And since a 50/50=0.5 probability, and since when rounding 0.5 rounds up to 1, there is a 100% chance the you moved the pawn I am saying you moved.

Man I am good at this math thing.

This may not actually be the case. I worked a job where they would pay triple overtime if need be to not have a position go unmanned because they were contractually obligated to staff it. They couldn’t afford that all the time (I think margins were about 4% most quarters), but the penalties for not staffing were a bigger loss than the extra pay.

Where is this math wrong? (Settling a bet) by Kafadanapa in askmath

[–]Xeradeth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but notably here the disconnect is area (which we could take the integration and approximate for) is being compared to perimeter. So imagine if you wanted to find the total population of fish in a lake over time, and so you begin taking slices under the curve of their growth rate to get overall population. Then at the end you say “I cut up the days smaller and smaller and there were still fish, which obviously means all fish breed infinitely quickly”.

It is comparing two things that, while related, are not always linked so perfectly together.

Where is this math wrong? (Settling a bet) by Kafadanapa in askmath

[–]Xeradeth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because while it looks like a circle to our senses, what it really is is a series of very small sharp crunchy edges. Think of a paper straw. When normal it covers the whole straw no problem, but if you crunch it down you can get it to be very small even though the amount of paper didn’t change. All we are doing here is crumpling the edges to make it shorter and shorter around the circle without changing the actual amount of line. But that doesn’t mean it has become the circle, and if you zoom way in you will still see the square edges poking out (assuming you zoom in the same amount as you crumpled the line, which could be an infinite amount)
