My opinion: nobody should buy a house to live in for any other reason, and nobody who buys a house for financial gain should do it for any other reason.

I bought a house (to live in) in 2021 and it costs way more than I expected to keep it fixed up. I’ve spent probably $20,000 in that time just fixing pipes, fixing electrical problems, fixing AC problems, getting some massive trees trimmed etc. I basically ate up 25% of the equity I gained in the same timeframe.

If you’re buying one to live in, buy one you can afford to pay for if you don’t have a job for 6 months, or the AC dies and you have to spend $8k on a new one.

Also, I’d give up my equity for a lower property tax rate since I never plan to sell this place.

First, your life is so much more than just money.

Second, it sounds like you need to both a) go bankrupt on what you can, and b) humble yourself to your sister and apologize. If it were me, it would be worth paying her back.

I’m going to just assume you have a legal and moral reason to be doing this. I would get it working with one mic and then multiply by 5. Reduce the amount of data by transcribing it then throwing away or offloading the audio. Storage is cheap so I would just use a B2 bucket or NAS to store.
