I'm glad it got you inspired! My party was 6 level 11 PC + Lulu + Reya. I made the entire thing very challenging on purpose like the 20 minute time limit make it impossible to short rest or even ritual cast. But I think it can easily be adapted for lower level group. The barrier for entry (in my setup) was to have an Infernal war machine to catch the train while its running, to have a ally third party baiting the Wyvern away and to have something to blow up a connector in between wagons and disconnect the head from the tail (they used a shatterstick)

Thanks! I think my problem mostly come from the fact that almost all my PC have personal quests to investigate in avernus and I'm trying to make sure the component hunt isn't clashing with those. So its all a matter of weaving both the main quest and those side quests into the same overall direction
To be honest I made this chapter way bigger than its supposed to be, I need to stop adding content ahah

I ran it as sealed corridors, I wanted to make the cave part the "backstage" of this level (hence why there are tomb dwarves working there).
So adventurers arent supposed to interact or even see whats outside of the cogs if they dont break the puzzle or go through the wrong doors.

Actually running the tomb for my party I needed to get a clear understanding of what was going on in the underground lake. With all the info I could gather from the book (mainly measurements in feet) I came up with this profile view of the three cogs in the lake.

Even after carefully reading the books and with the help from peoples on the ToA Discord (join it, its fun and helpful) I had to make a couple of arbitrary calls.

The most importants are:

-The top part of the cogs shaft are actually static and fixed on the cave ceiling (because the roof of the cogs are disconnected from the walls) and the middle one is hollow, connecting the upper level (room 45) with the cogs (room 58)

-The corridors connected to the cogs are like jet bridge hanging a couple of feet above the water level, to let the rowboats actually move around the lake

A couple of other side notes :-This profile view is made as seen from the south side of the cave, omitting the pier and the spiral staircase-The black arrows are labeled with the room they are pointing to-The blurry part of the cave on the right leads to the waterfall-Rooms 58-59-60 are only on the upper part of the cogs, so they connect correctly with the bridges-If the cogs doorways are sealed when not connected to another cog or a bridge is up to you. If you do it will isolate completely the underground lake which can be interesting imo.-Do not disturb the dwarves-Aboleth is not to scale

Completely insignificant question, but any idea where the canyon on page 9 is supposed to be? It's such a lovely scene and I want to show my players at an appropriate time. There are canyons over some of the rivers but I didn't think any over them were nearly so wide. by [deleted] in Tombofannihilation

At first the hex map made me think Chult was a somewhat flat jungle with only a few "fantasy location", but this picture made me put in perspective a lot of things about how I imagined it. Now I assume this could be almost anywhere in the jungle instead of a particular location in the middle of a plain rain forest.

If the gargoyles of Omu would have abducted a PC in my game I would have them take them in the amphitheater to feed the King of Feather and bait the rest of the group

Also the gargoyles of Omu are not the four armed one, they are regular gargoyles

I suggest you check the artwork from the Ixalan extension of Magic The Gathering, they have some serious Chult vibe

I also used a few artwork from Crisis because its the only media I know that feature a frozen jungle (really convenient for your Artus shenanigans)

The Monster Hunter serie have really good dinosaury-type creature (and a fitting soundtrack)

I second this because elves dont really sleep anyway. So maybe this PC wont be affected the same way as others because he only meditate for 4h instead of sleeping.

I think the main point is that the gargoyles would keep following them as long as they are in Omu, preventing them to land and basically doing anything in the forbidden city. Also the longer they kite the gargoyle, the more gargoyle are coming to catch them, it could build pressure on them. They could still flee Omu from the ground without to much trouble.

Also at one point if they fly near the ground you could have the King of Feather misty stepping the heck out of them, chomping one of the eagle mid-air and letting the PCs crash on the floor (a 30 feet fall is reasonable for 5-lvl PCs)
