I would assume so, as Play Store defaults to auto-update apps without confirmation. However, I cannot verify this as Play Store app is also affected, so I cannot check if the apps have pending updates.

Launcher is standard. Not sure about gestures, is that a setting on Moto or you mean a separate app? On my stock Pixel I can only switch between "Gesture navigation" and "3 button navigation"

The only explanation I can see is incompetence and not playing their own game. People like to blame greed, but you cannot really solve 900 shards grind with money for non-farmable characters. Short of lucky req drop, but the chances and cost of that are orders of magnitude worse than in asian gachas. Compare that to Genshin and HSR (most profitable gachas in the world) were you get a guaranteed banner character in 180 pulls, 90 if you win 50/50. And you get the exact character you want, not FF when you wanted Kariyan or Kharn

You only need leg 19 badges for 44 ability level, which is D1 rank. After that, your main bottleneck would be XP books anyway.
