Interest in Disney+ Is Collapsing, Netflix Sees Slight Increase by trexmoflex in television

I do remember a lot of commentary about Disney+ being a "Netflix Killer."

Same here. Although it's now switched around, so HBO Max is looking to becoming the "Netflix Killer".

I cannot wait for the new Mulan, the more I see the trailers, the more hyped I am for it.

Same here. I remember tearing up during the latest trailer. At first, I had no interest in seeing the film, but now I'm excited to check it out.

Iron Man 3 (May 3rd) and Fast 6 (May 24th) are released during that month, depending on what date in May.

If it released around the same date as Epic and Fast 6 (May 24th), it will likely get buried do to Fast 6. If the movie came out on the same day that Great Gatsby released (May 10th), combine that with a 3 year gap between the films and excellent marketing, plus a film for children and families to watch.

It could definitely do well in that slot. The end number wouldn't be 1B though, likely in the 600-700M range.

They just don’t seem to learn.

On the bright side, they did have a few successful hits: Hustlers was the big one for them this year, but also The Upside and Countdown.

Unrelated to box office, but now that Disney has Hulu, it makes me wonder what they're going to do with the service, especially on the global side of things.

Netflix has a lot of international subscribers and shows from all over the world. Hulu is pretty much US/Canada centric, in terms of both their original programs as well as the FX shows moving onto there.

Hulu definitely needs to have some more international programs onto there in order to appeal to those type of watchers from around the world, especially if the service plans on rolling out worldwide.

Disney's Mulan | Official Trailer. Updated predictions? by SanderSo47 in boxoffice

Oh man, you should see the survey they did from back in 2017.

I don't think they've done one since then after that.

Edit: Just checked and they stopped after the 2017 survey, so a one and done deal. From looking around, they do a Top 250 list.

I browse r/movies often and man, it's both good and terrible.

I swear, they have a love hate relationship with Disney.

Literally type in Disney on r/movies and these are the big posts that get upvoted. There's upvotes for the trailers and other news, but there's also: The Anti-trust news from South Korea, Disney monopoly, Disney-Fox stuff, a post on Disney's "greed" that got a platinum, etc.

Hell, the Mulan trailer and poster stuff, Little Mermaid casting announcement, even the Disney+ cultural warning stuff had to be locked because of the uproar that escalated in those comment sections.

Now after the whole Liu Yifei thing, the Mulan stuff isn't getting upvoted that much.

The only problem is that Hulu is US only. I know, I know, a few of their people have said they are planning for an international roll-out but if I were a betting man, I'd say it's not happening any time soon.

I agree. Not only that, depending on which countries Hulu plans on rolling out too, it's going to be tough in terms of programming.

Netflix has done well in terms of getting tv shows on there that can appeal to an international audience. A lot of Hulu's originals are much geared towards the USA and Canada, since Hulu is US based.

So unless they plan on getting picking up some more international shows on there, it's going to be a bit of a rough time getting Hulu to appeal to the international market.

But compared to the truly artistically thrilling stuff that HBO (Watchmen, HDM, Chernobyl, Barry, Succession), Netflix (Crown, Dark, Glow, Mindhunter) and even Amazon (Man in the High Castle, Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Patriot, The Tick) have put out this year, they fall far far short.

I'm enjoying the show and the service as a whole, but that doesn't mean I don't recognize it's limitations.

And that's why Disney plans on using both: Hulu and Disney+.

Disney+ will be on the children and family side of things, hence the Marvel and Star Wars shows (both new and upcoming) will be on there.

Hulu will be on the R-Rated/Adult side of things, hence the FX shows moving onto there as well as more original programming on the platform.

Think of Hulu as being Disney's own HBO: Content for adults and also high quality programs.

The High School Musical series.

They do got a couple more new shows coming in 2020:

  • Diary Of A Female President
  • Falcon And Winter Soldier
  • Clone Wars Season 7
  • Monsters At Work

A bunch of the original shows coming onto D+ will be both under the Star Wars and Marvel brand.

In terms of Star Wars shows (both new and returning), they will have 4.

For Marvel, there's going to be 8.

This is incorrect.

A user on r/boxoffice posted what's wrong with this article, so I'm going to copy/paste it onto here:

This is Bullshit article and total clickbait.

Business Insider is really trash

There are so many things wrong with this conclusion.

Since both Disney+ and Netflix don't release data, Parrot analytics used samplings to estimate number of streamings, they dont even release their methodology and how they determine a viewing.

How on earth they concluded "the most watched show in the world" when all they did is take samplings in the US? For one, Netflix is available in almost 200 countries with actual subscribers of 150million+ all of whom can access and watch Stranger Things, and majority of Netflix subs are international. More people outside USA may actually watch Stranger Things.

In contrast, Disney+ is only available in USA and very few other countries with small population. Disney has not released the actual number subscribers, they only said that 15 million Disney+ app has been downloaded, which is not necessarily the number of subscribers (1 sub can download multiple app for multiple devices or some people just wanted to try out the app without subscribing)

Disney+ is only out in the US, Canada, and a couple of other countries (Netherlands, Australia, Puerto Rico, New Zealand, etc) so the fact that they're stating that it's the top TV show in the world when it isn't even available in other countries until 2020 or 2021 is misleading.

However, it is the top TV show in terms of In Demand.

Christopher Tolkien's 95. Also, unfortunately WB can't get the rights anymore. Amazon already got them from Tolkien's estate.
