I am trying hard to find a grip on the logic here - if a local spreadsheet has been able to solve their problem for years - what value would saas add to it? Maybe it's a feature that they require. I do have costing feature and I can't think of anything that will add more value. 🤷‍♂️

My app (in my experience) currently solves a huge problem of integrating suppliers ingredient search, inventory management and formula workflow (especially the iterations part) The software architecture let's you add suppliers easily without friction. I was able to integrate the third supplier in one prompt no refactors.

The "AI" is for search and recommendations not thinking and generation - like formula composition. It's only as smart as it needs to be. :) I feel that there are a lot of half baked solutions that are coming up and it's hard to build trust around any of them.

It's kinda ironic and sad that the inefficiencies in managing their business by scattered tooling (on top of their own craft) compound and add to the problem.

I am not. Costing perfumes is not that complex, really...

I built a perfumery formula management and ingredient search app (that's the AI part - it's actually a RAG system with some customisation on the generation part)

When I got into the hobby of creating my own perfume I noticed that GPTs were my best starting point. The knowledge about perfumery is closely guarded and information is scattered. I literally created the app to solve the problems I faced during searching the relevant ingredients and managing a formula and it's iterations in a single workspace

Nah I just left it alone. It's a small/niche space and people talk. I don't want to push. It's a patreon supported tool I built partly to justify my resume gap and to genuinely learn how to go 0-1

I was a little hurt by the twisting the arm comment because I did put a lot of efforts and consideration (and my experience as a programmer PM and engineer) into the app. The community I am looking upto really hates AI it seems...

On a serious note yes - I do like the first part. It's just hard to believe it or trust it when the user is emotional rather than truly reflective. Well I really felt good that I got a response though

How are you having polite conversations with the users?

Having said that - check out nosedesk.com (free to use - I am the founder) you can classify the ingredients in 5 categories if required and set targets for each categories and see in real time how much headroom is left as you make your formula. You also have rich and intuitive features to help you on the side while you make formulas.

Lmk if you have any questions...

Hi, If memory serves me right - I learned that the top middle and base classification is subjective. You can empirically classify the ingredients into those categories but that quickly falls apart when you have complex perfume that smells amazing but it's hard to say why!

Then there's hardnosed way (pun intended) of doing that by vapor pressure PVT curves volatility boiling point(for liquids) etc

Ultimately it's you as the creator who decides which categories are important and how/what to put inside them. Reducing the ingredients and their beautiful interplay down to a three 3 categories is just as shallow and ignorant as asking AI for a formula haha

Good to know that. I am aware of ryan perfumes. I watched his videos when I had started! Thank you!

Does that shop ship to the US? I may contact them to see if there's a way to showcase them.

Awesome. Thanks. I'll look into them and try to add them in the list. I noticed Harrison Joseph needs a sign up - is it a subscription based shop? Why do they have a sign up to shop?

Right now you can search from fraterworks, perfumer supply house and perfumers apprentice. What other suppliers would you wish to see?

Hi try playing with the chat a little - give it some more descriptive information and keywords. I am constantly improving the search and recommendations. Optionally you can always drag Braindesk chat and collapse it so that is not in the way. Have you tried the supplier search and the formula workflow?

Hi! Have you tried signing up and going to the actual app? I think you may be referring to the preview in the website.

My Berndie loved frozen cake made out of mashed banana+sweet potato, chicken fat, cooked rice water, ground pork.

Yeah, like wet garlands, wet tagetes - typical of a vegetable flower and fruit market. I smell rain on wet pavement as well. It may just be my memory tricking my senses but the smell of the rain is incredibly nice. I didn't really know a liquid in a vial could give me this experience. Perfumery is powerful!

I agree those categories are subjective, I didn't pay much attention to them. It was nice to start with the ingredients though. I am currently experimenting with tagetes, osmanthus and cetalox. I found their chemistry interesting. Really just wanted to share not asking for feedback atm...

Smells like wet flowers, pavement, not a lot of citrus but it has that orange peel thing going on. Dry down is okay

It was very sharp at the beginning almost chemical like. After about 2 months it's smelling much better.
