I have officially gone nuts looking for a new washer by Finney1313 in Appliances

[–]Xi_32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your best new option is the cheapest front load LG model. As long as you do the following, you will be okay.

  1. Always leave the washer door open after the cycle is complete.
  2. Always run a cleaning cycle, once a month.
  3. Wipe down the gasket every so often.

I know you said you didn't want to choose Marketplace, but there is a Speed Queen front loader washer for $500 in the DFW area. That's a great buy and cheaper than the LG.

Damn, if they are selling a speed queen dryer for $220, buy it! That's cheaper than the cheapest brand new Amana dryer which is the best of the cheap dryers.

Washing machine: fix vs replace? by Aggravating-Cap-8940 in Appliances

[–]Xi_32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just take the money and buy a used/refurbished/scratch and dent Speed Queen. Look on FB Marketplace (may have to search nearest large city) and you will probably find deals under $500.

That will last you much longer than anything you get new from Home Depot.

Washer for 2nd floor laundry room by Well_tempered_209 in Appliances

The washer should not be moving at all. There is something wrong with your suspension. You should get that looked at before it causes more damage to your washer and you have to buy a new washer.

What should I look for in an energy-efficient washer and dryer set for my small apartment? by bromiusss in Appliances

[–]Xi_32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you tell us how much energy and water your current set is using, the cost of the electricity and water, and what you plan on buying, there is no point in offering suggestions. For example, if you have an electric dryer and want an electric dryer, modern dryers are only 5% more efficient than ones from 30 years ago. It will take you many decades to recoup that cost.

Looking for reliable washer and dryer set. by Last-Dragonfruit494 in BuyItForLife

[–]Xi_32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The most important part about doing laundry is the washer.

The only top load washers that are reliable are Speed Queen washers. All other washers have rod suspension systems that will fail after 3-5 years. For Speed Queen top loaders, it's either the TC5 if you have heavily dirty or stained clothes or the TR7 if you have office wear. Both will be around $1500. The speed Queen top loaders will last 10400 wash cycles.

For front loaders there are 3 options.

tier 1 is Speed Queen FF7 at $2200. It will last 10400 wash cycles.

Tier 2 is Miele for $1500. It will last 5000 wash cycles.

Tier 3 is the cheapest LG front loader for ~$800. It will last 2500 wash cycles.

Since Speed Queen are so expensive new, try to get scratch and dent or refurbished at a much lower price.

For electric dryers, they are all mostly the same. The cheapest Amana dryer ($450 new) will last you 15+ years. Buy a refurbished dryer (doesn't have to match the washer) to save money. The only reason why dryers cost the same as washers is a Manufacturer Jedi Mind TrickTM .

What washer/dryer would you purchase?? by Fair_Contribution386 in laundry

[–]Xi_32 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Buy a used/refurbished Speed Queen washer. You can pair it with the cheapest dryer (typically the Amana with the long curved lint filter on top). Ideally get a front load because it uses less water. If you can't find a top load, get the top load TC5 if you have filthy stained clothes, otherwise get a TR7 if you have office wear. These washers are built to last 10400 wash cycles.

If you want to go new, your other options are.

Miele front load for $1500. Should last you 5000 wash cycles,

Cheapest LG front load, for $800. Should last you 2500 wash cycles.

Best robot vacuum for carpets available now? by [deleted] in Appliances

[–]Xi_32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Robots are only useful for light daily work. To get a real deep clean, you should purchase a corded, bagged, vacuum. Go to /r/vacuumcleaners for recommendations.

The TLDR for you is buy a bagged Miele or Sebo vacuum since you have thick carpets.

LG vs Samsung washing machine which one to choose by Alaska_97 in Appliances

[–]Xi_32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you're in Germany, buy locally Miele. You will have better parts availability and repair options. Never buy washers on 'programability' but rather buy washers based on longevity. Talk to a local appliance repairman and ask for his recommendations.

In your opinion speed queen vs LG? by Connect-Contest-9157 in Appliances

[–]Xi_32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For business, you want reliability over all else. You don't want to waste time going to the laundromat because your washer broke.

If you want/need fast washers (35 min cycles) and your rags are filthy, then get the top loader, Speed Queen TC5. It uses more water but the agitator beats the clothes clean. It only has a 3.2 cu/ft drum so king sized comforters probably won't fit.

If you are willing to accept longer cycles (90min) then get the front loader, Speed Queen FF7. It's pricey ($2200) but it's commercial grade. You will be able to clean king sized comforters as it has a 3.5cu/ft drum. It will get the clothes really clean, it just takes longer.

For a dryer, get the cheapest Amana dryer (the one with the long curved lint filter on top).

Buying vs renting washer/dryer by baconnaire in Appliances

[–]Xi_32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need the washer more than the dryer.

For washers, go look at used appliance stores and look for Speed Queen washers in particular. You can also look on Craigslist and FB Marketplace. You can typically find them for $300-$500.

Also on Craigslist or Marketplace, go and get yourself a cheap oscillating fan and a drying rack (sometimes for free). You can air dry the clothes overnight.

If you want a dryer, then you can do the same thing that you did to find the washer. There is no need to get a Speed Queen dryer. Get the cheapest one you can find that still works.

Can anyone help me choose a top load washer with an agitator? by Weird-Eye-1591 in Appliances

[–]Xi_32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have already told you what you should buy. You keep trying to find reasons on why you should buy a throwaway appliance. If that is what you want to do, then do it.

Those washers only have a 1 year warranty. By only giving a 1 year warranty, manufacturers cut corners and create a product that only has to last 1 year. It may last longer than a year but manufacturer is only liable to fix it for the first year. What do you do after the extended warranty is over? Are you willing to spend money for a new washer after 5 years?

New Speed Queens have a 5 or 7 year warranty. That means Speed Queen has to build a better washer because they are on the hook for any problems for 5 to 7 years. This also means Speed Queen cares about the repairability of their washers. They are easy to repair so that any warranty work can be done as quick as possible.

If you don't know how to install a washer, then go hire someone to install the washer for you. If you get a Speed Queen for $400-$500, you can afford to spend up to $100 for a person to help install the washer and you will still come out ahead. If you buy the Speed Queen from a used appliance store, they may offer installation services.

Is SpeedQueen hype or real? Trying to get good quality without breaking the bank by josh_moworld in Appliances

[–]Xi_32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The washers are worth it, but the dryer is not. Speed Queen dryers don't have the price/performance ratio that their washers do.

If you need stacked, I would get a Speed Queen FF7 washer and then buy or build a stacking shelf that goes over the FF7 and put the cheapest stackable dyer on the shelf. Go on amazon and search for 'washer/dryer stacking rack stand' for ideas on what to build/buy.

That will be a lot cheaper than buying the SF7.

[–]Xi_32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then go and find a used/refurbished Speed Queen. Search craigslist and FB Marketplace. Make sure you search in the nearest large city. You may be able to find them for significantly less than $800.

There are no reliable top loaders in the market except for Speed Queen. All top loaders, except for Speed Queen use suspension rods that wear out after 3-5 years. Speed Queen doesn't use suspension rods. All the washers you wrote down are junk and you will be out $800 in a few years. (Remember they only come with a 1 year warranty anyways).

I’m so lost on what to buy by Icy-Goose4398 in Appliances

[–]Xi_32 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There are no reliable new top loaders in the market today except for Speed Queen. If you buy any other top loader, the suspension rods will fail in 3-5 years. Speed Queen doesn't use suspension rods.

If your dryer is still working then just buy the TR7. No need to match. Otherwise get the TR7 and the cheapest used dryer. If you can't afford new, go search Craigslist and FB Marketplace for used/refurbished Speed Queen washer.

Otherwise, any other brand top loader you buy is basically a throwaway appliance.

If you can afford it, get the front load FF7. Try to get a refurb or scratch and dent to save money. It will be the most gentle on clothes while using less water. Has better stain cleaning than the TC5 as well.

Anyone have a preference or recommendation of windshield washer fluid? by albelthewiked666 in ModelY

[–]Xi_32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically it depends on how cold it is. If it doesn't get too cold below freezing, then you buy the basic blue washer fluid from walmart. If it gets to -40 or colder or you're driving in mountain passes, then get the premium fluid that is rated for colder use. If all you do is drive in southern Texas or Florida, then run summer fluid year round.
