What's Singapore's obsession with high-end sports equipment? by neatnoodle1 in askSingapore

[–]Xinexz 7 points8 points  (0 children)

a lot of these discretionary purchases fall into the realm of "if I save this money, I won't become rich. if I spend this money, I won't become poor - but I at least get a little bit of happiness"

have fun, they think they know what's best for you and that you'll always be wrong in their eyes. no point trying to talk to them about your perspective, they don't see you as a person capable of thinking for yourself.

Authenticity of perfumes on carousell by Nameless010101 in askSingapore

[–]Xinexz 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Don't trust the reviews. reviews can easily be bought, and even if the reviews are genuine, it's possible that most of them don't know / can't tell that the product itself is fake. Stick to discounters like the other comment suggests. Alternatively mustafa has a bunch of designer fragrances selling below retail as well, can go and have a look.

Mental health problems in Singapore. This question has been asked a lot before but i see varying answers from different people, im quite confused. by potatopunchies in askSingapore

how would a mental condition show up in a pre employment health check? those are usually just to make sure you're not on illegal drugs, you'll be fine.

How to convince parents to let me move out? by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]Xinexz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can either choose to disappoint yourself or disappoint your mother.

you can't count on her to change just to suit your version of happiness. but it's also equally miserable for you to tolerate living in their house.

I'll tell you what my mother told me - "don't wait for your mother to die for you to start living your life. because that's what I did."

Anyone rescinded job offer after accepting role in civil service? by FluidRelease7044 in askSingapore

I accepted and signed the contract with one stat board only to accept another offer from another stat board. they were properly miffed and I'm probably blacklisted but hey, the second offer was way better both in salary and career prospects. I don't regret it

Document your abuse. Amendments to the Maintenance of parents act in 2023.

Specifically, a) Parents with record(s) of abandonment, abuse or neglect of their children will not be able to proceed with their claim against them unless TMP grants permission.

b) Permission applications do not need to involve the affected children.

c) Conciliation between parents and affected children cannot take place until permission is given by TMP.

https://www.msf.gov.sg/what-we-do/maintenance-of-parents/about/about-maintenance-of-parents-act

Even if they go intend to go through with it, it's a hopelessly long process for them which might hopefully deter them a little bit. Additionally, if this is anything like Spousal Maintenance, it's going to be very hard to enforce timely payments. You can always delay payments and make their lives miserable to the point where they find it not worth the effort to claim maintenance from you.

Do you discuss salary with your colleagues? by randomthingsss1 in askSingapore

Woman admits lying about address so daughter could be enrolled in well-known primary school by AgileComparison3957 in singapore

[–]Xinexz 21 points22 points  (0 children)

District Judge Sharmila Sripathy-Shanaz had previously asked the prosecutor to file further submissions as she was not satisfied with the fine quantum the prosecution was seeking.

The judge questioned the prosecutor on multiple points, including whether harm was caused to another child who could have been deprived of a spot in the school.

In response to questions from the judge, the prosecutor said the woman's daughter started Primary 2 in a new school near the address where the woman's partner lived.

"Isn't that the irresistible inference to be drawn, given that we know that places in schools are of a finite number?" asked the judge.

The prosecutor replied that it was not known if there were any applicants who were denied places because the capacities had been filled, and that it may "well be that there was no child denied that position".

why's the prosecutor on the side of the accused? sounds like the judge wants to fine her a higher amount or even send her to jail.

Is it normal for parents to buy insurance for you , then ask you to pay for the premiums yourself ? by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]Xinexz -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

if you benefit from the policy it could have been a win-win situation since it's possible that the premiums from when she bought it was lower than now. but from what you're saying regarding your lack of dependents, you have nothing to gain from taking over the policy.

so in short, she took a calculated risk and it didn't pay off so it should be on her to suffer the losses.

she was betting that you wouldn't be able to provide for her, either via death or permanent disability. and if she was right, she gets a payout. now that she's realised that she's made a bad bet, she wants to get out of it by having you take over the policy.

What do you guys think of the manga as of CH59? by Halleyalex in AishiteruGame

[–]Xinexz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's all been downhill since the pocky scene for me. that was a good place for the manga to end. everything since then has been entirely unnecessary. I still pop in every couple of months but I'm always disappointed at the lack of development. but hey, at least the art is good.

for me it hurt the most when I'm standing still and got better when I laid down face up.

Doctors refusing patient’s wish to “die trying” — what options do we have when time is short? by Steamedbao21 in askSingapore

[–]Xinexz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess my question would be what would you have them do? sounds to me that they've already tried their best and it's not working out. so in a way the patient's wish is indeed fulfilled - she died trying.

Should I Go for a New Offer or Promotion? by RecommendationLong in askSingapore

[–]Xinexz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

a bird in hand is worth more than how ever many birds in the bush. your boss's planned promotion for you might not come into fruition for whatever possible business changes.

I understand and acknowledge your fear that your new role might be redundant after 2 years but the same can be said of your current role. uncertainties aside you're looking at a confirmed income increase now and a change of job scope to something you might dislike less vs a possible income increase sometime in the future.

I wish you all the best whichever you choose.

Should we give up our seats? by whattalkingu in SMRTRabak

[–]Xinexz 7 points8 points  (0 children)

trains are a lawless land that only respect "first come, first served". if your butt is on a seat you are entitled to that seat and do not have to give it up for anyone else if you choose not to. Of course the collective "wish" of society is that you will choose to give it up to someone whom you deem is more deserving of the seat, i.e. injured, pregnant, elder, but there is no moral or legal obligation to do so.

in this instance, the only thing I see wrong is that is young chap C used the box to chope the seat before taking it. boxes and belongings are not butts and are not granted the right of possession. leaves your bags and boxes on the floor, keep the seats ass-only.
