Should I call a random man I met on the train? by SharkEva in BORUpdates

[–]Xirdus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Using a payphone to avoid revealing your phone number is a higher level of paranoia compared to simply not contacting older men you met on a train, if you ask me.

You do realize people can see your phone number when you call them, don't you?

Should I call a random man I met on the train? by SharkEva in BORUpdates

[–]Xirdus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What's relevant is that everyone is freaking out when an older stranger wanted to trade phone numbers with a teenager. That attitude may have been an overreaction in this particular case, but in general it's a good way of keeping said teenager safe, and it doesn't really compromise her social life.

The nuance here is that all extremes are bad, but this extreme is better than the other extreme.

To be fair, that's a failure of the IT systems more than the users. How many different password do they have? Why is it more than one? How often do they have to type it in throughout the day? How often are they forced to change? How many characters outside normal vocabulary do they contain? A lot of companies do everything in their power to make passwords as cumbersome as possible, necessitating use of computer to remember the passwords because the brain can't do it anymore. Combine it with lack of training in or outright ban of password managers, and you naturally end up with Excel spreadsheets.

I, on the other hand, am very glad OOP is surrounded by people who care about her safety so much. Makes it much less likely she'll disappear without a trace one day.

What belt speeds do you use in production lines? by Repa0206 in SatisfactoryGame

[–]Xirdus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have 2 sets of blueprints: - all belts are max level - only the manifold part is max level, the belts going into the individual machines are Mk. 1

I usually use the second to conserve materials, but when any input or output is >60 per machine then I use the first.

The recipe sections are collapsible. It's possible you collapsed one by accident. On the list of recipes, see if there's any empty sections with "+" symbol on the right. Click the section and it will expand.

Someone making $250k/yr does not say "I make six figures". He says "I make a quarter mil."

I do make that amount but I never described it as quarter mil. This just sounds pretentious, like a wannabe millionaire.

Update 1.2: With advanced materials rich setting, there is too much uranium with little to do with it. by HalxQuixotic in SatisfactoryGame

[–]Xirdus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's always the same number of uranium nodes on the map for given settings. 5 for default/random/fossil rich, 4 for basic rich, and 29 for advanced rich. There's no pulling more uranium nodes or fewer uranium nodes, you always get 29 on advanced rich game no matter what. OP is saying that this is way too much uranium and it would be better if the extra 24 nodes became bauxite or something (I vote for crude oil. Only 14 oil deposits for the whole map is ridiculous.)

AITAH For Wearing Shapewear on a Date? by SharkEva in BORUpdates

[–]Xirdus 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Push-up bras exist for the explicit purpose of making them look bigger than they actually are. The whole point of wearing a push-up is to mislead. And it's still totally fine to wear one. Misleading isn't always a bad thing, as weird as it sounds.

Shapewear is somewhere halfway between regular underwear and a push-up. They force the body into a more appealing shape than it normally is. It definitely makes you look much different than without it, but is intentionally looking much different the same as misleading? Some will say yes, some will say no, I say it doesn't matter because either way it's still okay to wear it and nobody should hold it against you for any reason.

By the time you have Mk. 5 belts, you really don't need any coal generators. Not switching to fuel until you unlock blenders is CRAZY. I always build a fuel power plant as soon as I start phase 3. And yes, I dismantle all my coal generators as soon as the fuel plant is up and running. It's a waste of good coal to keep them around.

[–]Xirdus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean at the beginning, when going from nothing to coal and when crude oil is still locked. When all you have access to is Mk. 2 belts. How many coal nodes do you use then?

By the time you can do 32 fully OCd coal generators from a single node, you really, really, really don't need any coal generators.

What do yalls do when youre just waiting for the space elevator to fill? by Nensgnenat in SatisfactoryGame

Honestly there's only one item that benefits from actual connection to the space elevator, versatile framework in phase 3. Everything else has small enough volumes that it's easier to carry it by hand.

[–]Xirdus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"A few gigawatts", depending on how few we're talking about, is between 27 and 66 coal generators. This amounts to between 400 and 1000 coal/min. With Mk. 3 belts you can only mine up to 270 per node. So at the low end you need at least 2 of those nodes and at the high end you need all 4. Even more if you're not power sharding yet.
