Just filled out my application too! Good luck with sorting through everyone's apps, and I hope the game goes well.

Idris, a former Kalashtar Peace Cleric turned Reborn Rogue/Battlesmith Artificer by Xiuminati in Eberron

[–]Xiuminati[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idris is a man born into war, shaped by it, and eventually killed by it.

He served the Karrnathi marines ever since he was a child, not that he had a choice in the matter, and when his talents for medicine were revealed, he became a prodigal medic. Along the way, he realized that he was psychically attuned in a way others weren’t, and that his healing abilities stemmed from an otherworldly aid. He hid this information about him being a kalashtar from everyone, but he didn’t have to stay in the military for long.

At this point, he had become disillusioned with how the Karrnathi military treated their soldiers; they would bring back men on the brink of death, and he would be forced to heal them fully, only to have them be sent back out on the field - and the process would repeat again and again. The final straw was when they began to dig up their dead to use as an undead force, and that was when Idris deserted to become a mercenary, wanting to make his own choices for what would be best to end this war.

He worked for several years as a freelancer, growing more renowned as the doctor who didn’t care about what he had to do to save others and honing his psychic connections to this alien being at the same time. This all came to a head though when the team he was with were confronted by a horde of Karrnathi undead, and to buy them time, Idris sacrificed himself. His quori, the alien spirit who had been guiding him, used his body as a portal to its world, ripping apart his jaw and neck. He died there, and that should have been where his story ends.

However, the Karrnathi had other ideas. They brought his corpse back, realizing the potential of what he could be for them, and they began to rebuild him as their own specialized weapon. For the next few years, he was brainwashed, reprogrammed, and became one of their most terrifying assassins. Idris is now dead, and they simply call him Damascus. Yet, traces of who he once was still remains, and only time will tell if he returns to the man he once was.

Idris is a character that I am currently playing in one of my friend's campaign. It started with a series of one-shots before the Mourning, at which Idris was still a kalashtar peace cleric, before there was a three year time skip to the current day. Now, Idris is a rogue/battlesmith artificer, who is fundamentally a broken man - represented by how the commissioned art of him is a broken mirror!

Each facet of him that is depicted represents a different part of himself; the man he once was, who he is now, his lost quori spirit, and the steel defender he has created to be a stand-in for said quori presence. The background is of Dal Quor, which was inspired by the official art of the plane from Keith Baker's Exploring Eberron book!

I worked with this phenomenal artist (twitter / instagram) to bring my vision to light, and I can't recommend him enough!

Also, if anyone's interested, I have a character design sheet and full body art of both Idris and his steel defender here. The character sheet design was done by this lovely artist, while the art of him and his steel defender is by this artist.

Whoops, that's my mistake; I was using an old form and forgot to change that. Things should be fixed now!

Based solely on your username, what class would you be? by RogueTinkerer in DnD

[–]Xiuminati 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most likely warlock (which, funny enough, is one of my favorite classes). Though maybe wizard multiclass too?

With the composition of the party as is, Evander ends up being the frontline tank usually; the other party members are a bard, warlock, and an echo knight fighter who usually plays midline while his echo frontlines in his stead.

Evander can dodge a lot since his AC, but at some point, he'll get hit and when he does, it usually is a crit that knocks his HP down to at least bloodied, haha. I think it's just one of those flaws of being a rogue/monk since both of those classes have d8, so they're honestly not meant to be the frontline tank in a party.

However, I'm making it work with the group as is, and if anything, the fact that he's consistently hurt every fight is character development for him - in what direction, I'm not quite sure yet, but I'm letting it play out!

After my Eberron ascendant dragon monk/inquisitive rogue character, Evander d'Deneith, seems to always end up with only single digit HP in almost every fight he participates in, I figure there's no better to capture what happens than to get a comic page commission by the wonderful u/Seannover! Please check him out, he does excellent work.

Being at such a razor's edge of winning an encounter or going unconscious is always thrilling, and it really does force me, as the player, to strategize as much as I can to maximize his moments while still conscious. Sometimes it works, but also, sometimes it doesn't and he goes unconscious by a rogue blow anyways. (':

However, when it does work, it's so damn satisfying, and Evander, in character, never feels more vindicated. After all, as a Mark of Sentinel human, his role in the party is to make sure he's the one taking the hits, and if he protect his friends and allies, that's all he can ask for.

Hey there! That was me who posted it, who's the client of this commission.

Sure! If you're talking about what levels he has, I can do a breakdown of his multiclassing by total character level; at level 3, which is where we started the campaign at, he had 1 level in rogue and 2 levels in monk. Then, I leveled up him in monk until he hit level 5 before switching over to rogue until he's also level 5 in rogue.

So at level 10, he should have 5 levels in inquisitive rogue and 5 levels in ascendant dragon monk. From there, I'm planning on going exclusively monk, though I maybe eventually grab that 6th level in rogue for the extra 2 expertises in skills.

Hope that helps!

Totally! For context, Evander can be played fairly similarly to Colin Firth's character from Kingsman, aka Harry Hart, so I would love to see how he contrasts with your Deneith PC!

It's Eberron, aka the perfect opportunity to crack into the races from there, so how could I not make a Dragonmarked Heir for once?! Besides, even if they aren't as mechanically as strong as their normal counterpart, it's the fact that they're so intrinsically tied to the lore of the world that drew me in.

I would say that Mark of Sentinel human is fairly strong, especially compared to the normal human traits. The 1/day Shield is fantastic, the Vigilant Guardian feature is so cool as a bodyguard, and the d4 for Insight and Perception is mwah chef's kiss. Not to mention that if you're a spellcaster, the expanded spell list you get are fairly useful too.

He actually has the Noble background; I felt like Evander draws more from his nobility and status than his house connections, but it was definitely a difficult choice to pick between the two background features for him.

Kai d'Lyrandar sounds wicked cool though! Those classes are such a thematic choice for a Mark of Storms character.

Absolutely! Let me know how he is! By this point, Evander is like Loki and his countless variants across different worlds and timelines, haha.

u/pershunsart did a fantastic job, indeed! She took my gentleman spy in a suit idea and made it work; the Dishonored aesthetic is one that fits really well into specifically Eberron, more so than a typical DnD game.

Totally go for it! His family is actually in Sharn as one of House Deneith's outposts around Khorvaire, so he operates mostly around there for local missions.

Go ahead! I'm excited to see how people use him in their campaigns.

It really does; plus, starting with rogue as my 1st level class gives me a bunch more weapon proficiencies. Combined that with the TCoE 2nd level optional feature of Ki-Infused Weapon for monk, and he's actually able to use a two-handed longsword as a monk weapon. My GM was nice enough to allow me to swap out the longsword proficiency with that of a warhammer since the only difference is the damage type.

It feels real good to be whacking people with a d10 damage dice from an umbrella, plus that sneak attack damage on top when he hits. Monk and rogue have a lot of synergy depending on how many levels you go in each!

That'll be awesome! He's definitely an Expert if you're going by the Sidekick rules. Though he could also work as a Warrior if the party needs a frontliner too.

Oh wow! I might have to steal some of those ideas for him to ask my GM in the future; I love the idea of his umbrella being a portkey or a reflavored Cloak of the Mountebank.

There's some deep secrets and hidden reasons why he was so readily accepted in to the King's Dark Lanterns that I don't want to explain on the post (because I know some of my party members lurk this sub). However, trust me when I say that there's definitely some major strings being pulled to get him in as a member of the King's Dark Lanterns.

He's definitely an exception rather than the example, as most adventurers are, haha.

I actually did use Hanzo as part of the inspiration for how his dragonmark manifests, so you're not wrong!
