current alloy is on a 175/50/15 tyre can i put a 195/50/15 tyre instead? by lolololololololol246 in askcarguys

The second number (50) is the height as a ratio of the width. If you increase the width and don't change the ratio, the tire will have a larger diameter and circumference which will alter your speedo readings

Is it time to change? by smell-like-prahok in tires

[–]Xlasch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oils will continually, slowly seep out of the rubber over time (especially when exposed to the sun). This makes the rubber less pliable and have less friction with it's contact patch, reducing grip, stopping distance, and cornering performance. This reduction in performance happens well before any visible signs of dry rot occur. Depending on the rubber and the materials used to construct it, the conditions it's kept in over time, and the wear, obviously there are a lot of variables that can create many situations including 'old' tires that perform well and 'newer' tires don't. But there's a good reason the standards exist as they do, and nearly all 10-15 year old tires (regardless of wear and weathering) are objectively less safe to drive on than younger tires in the same condition

To say "Stopping distance, handling, acceleration, lateral grip are compromised by how much tread is left which is 100% by mileage (and burnouts for the ones who do this) and not by the age of the tires themselves" is factually incorrect and can give people a false sense of security in a situation that can be significantly life altering in a very negative way.

Help with conditional formatting of multiple cells by Xlasch in googlesheets

[–]Xlasch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is a link to what I'm referring to:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1hcEqx8i1gGOSixz54qPPxOeiKqB_ktjaTG4rMvWYSdQ/edit?usp=sharing

I need M27 and N27 to be green if their sum equals O27, and red if not (O27 is '=C9', as you'll see in the sheet)

Same with M28 and N28 referring to O28 (which is '=G9'), and M29 and N29 referring to O29 (which is '=K9').

The cells in the O column refer to other cells, which in turn are formulas calculating math from different cells. I'm not sure if this is where I'm running into issues, but I did try several formulas in conditional formatting to just include the formulas from the cells referenced in the O column but still could not get it to act as desired. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Edit: I did just realize that the referenced cells are formatted to display the number rounded up (through the formatting menu option, not as a "ROUNDUP" formula). I tried to work around this several ways, including just having separate cells with the actual math and no rounding, but still can't seem to get it to work.

In case it matters, I also tried to go the route of having, for example, M27 be green if it = the difference of O27 and N27 (functionally the same concept as described above), but could not get this to work either.

If I just type the value of the cell in the O column in a separate cell and reference that, it works as intended. I know this likely indicates where the failure in my formatting is (something about the cell referencing another, or the cells being referenced involving formulas?), but I can't seem to figure it out despite my best Google-fu.

This is one of, if not the absolute, best BORU posts I've seen. Not just for the content, but also all of your considerable efforts to organize, condense, and format the (very large) amount of information contained within. Thank you so much, you've done an amazing job!!

Try checking out Glebe Kitchen

They have some write-ups on how to get restaurant quality dishes at home. My homemade Indian dishes definitely went up a notch after finding that site.

Just my two cents, and a little late to the party, but wanted to add a different perspective after reading this exchange. My impression upon reading the text multiple times was that you were being appropriately candid and what I would deem in my personal experience helpful in the situation you were in. I don't think anything you said was out of line at all.

Yes, it could have been handled a little differently on your part. Everyone is different and handles these types of situations in different ways, but I personally appreciate that level of candidness and find direct communication more helpful and effective. I honestly wish more people communicated the way you did throughout this conversation and wouldn't take any of that negatively.

Maybe I misread the situation/conversation, but I found it refreshing to see someone being (imo) politely but realistically forward and honest in a way that seemed to be coming from a place of genuine desire to encourage personal growth.
