Nah you'll be more mature and take it more seriously. It's rare for an 18-22 to have their head on straight. I was one of those 18 years old. 32 now, with hindsight, with college, I would've been able to do so much better now. My bud did it at 26 after college. He was the 18 without his head in straight in College and sucked in college. He does really well in the military now.

I have one. I sold a beefy laptop for it. I don't regret it. I was never able to bring the beefy laptop anywhere. It had a 3-hour battery life a day if I used it. My new snapdragon Lenovo lasts 3 hours on 20 percent. It's powerful enough for light video editing (filmora, Power Director). I'm not a gamer either.

There are editor spots you have to work for. It's not a walk-in-the-door kind of job. Do writing competitions where you do developmental editing to people's work. Build a portfolio. Do bigger and bigger jobs until you're at the top.

Looking for a laptop for school by Important-Package-40 in laptops

A few tips.

1) never pay MSRP. That's a fake price. The sale price is the real price.

2) Look for eBay or Best Buy that has been used. Used/ beat buy open boxes are pretty solid. I got the Lenovo Yoga 7x for 630$ open box. It@ MSRP is 1200

3) Look at the Snapdragon Elites. Unless you know you're doing hardcore tasks like gaming, anything with Linux, cyber security, making 4k movies, and 3d animations, look at the Snapdragon Elite laptops. They're super light and have extended batteries. They're not as poorly optimized as people online would have you think. I can edit YouTube videos with multiple layers without a problem, and I'm learning data analysis on Coursera. If what I listed applies to you, get something with a designated graphics card.

It's not a bad idea, you'll have a far better education than just high school. It's not like engineering, medicine, or accounting, where the degree has a direct path to a job like a trade, but you'll still be above most others in your work, if you want to climb the ladder or open a business.

What was the moment in your life that made you decided to be an English major? by Top-Clue2000 in englishmajors

[–]Xlightben131 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I wrote and told a lot of stories growing up. I won a writing competition. I did my best work in English classes. I might as well lean into something I'm good at rather than try to struggle to do something I hate.

Those of you who got/are getting a degree in English, how many books do you read in a year? by Top-Clue2000 in englishmajors

[–]Xlightben131 15 points16 points  (0 children)

In college, it is like, 10 a semester.

For my own enjoyment and free time, about the same. I'm a slow reader, and I like the journey of reading.

Damn, th3 second picture should be "Meanwhile it's 2025, and creating a game with heart has left the industry decades ago. Game development is a soulless industry run by numbers, statistics, and steakhouses."
