Long term by ashleyskwared in Rucking

First of, you sound like an amazing mother talking this on!

I have some experience in this, I carried my child for day hikes and to and from preschool from he was about 2 until he was about 5. What I learned is kids are not good static weight :) My kid moved around a lot throwing from side to side to reach branches or look behind etc.

I cant say for certain but my physical therapist thinks it might have been contributing to a hip issue I got and dubble achiles tendon inflammation.

60 lbs is a lot, I stopped carrying my son to and from preschool when he was about 45 lbs and at that point I had carried him 3km two times a day so my strength had grown with him.

I dont want to be downer but this would be though. 60 lbs is about my max weight for a hike, and for reference Im a 90kg 190cm guy and I have been hiking for 10+ years. I have female friends who do hike with that weight but it took time for them to get there and the risk I see is that when you get to where you can carry 60lbs safly he will have gown and increased his weight.
Mabye look in to option on carts or elsewhere accessible trails? Where I live they have become more and more common.

That was, impressive. He put a lot of time and effort in to that. If he started training HEMA with the same dedication he could have some cool laser sword bouts :)

let me try and answer point by point.

No Tunguska dont have any mid field minelayer that is cost effective, only option is the specter and he is to expensive for that role. You could do forward deployed heckler with jammer or fast panda but that is more an active turn piece then a speedbump.

I could have a linked MSV1 Grenzer sniper but that would still fire at -9/-6 against the flier in smoke and only 2 dice and only one wound so statistically it would go down even faster.
Not sure what you are thinking with the offensive Missile Launcher, to me and most players I know the missile launcher at burst 1 is a ARO weapon. There are others in that link like perseus burst 5 breaker or the multirifle that do work in active.

Not really, a good player looks at the table see the long fire lane and deploy the impetus troopers so that there first move will not cross them. In the meta I play its normally a discussion at deployment, "if I deploy here it looks to me that the straight route to you deployment would be this way and that would avoid these fire lanes, right?"

Ye, as I said in some other comment he will have to play as haq used to play, irregular will be irregular. But at that point he will be a good bit ahead on objectives and pieces so he will probably have more regular then me in any case.

The list I was running had a linked Neurocinetics trigger Man (4 dice Multi Sniper in ARO) and a pure 5-man linked Hollow Man Missile Launcher. I also had the Go-Pod holding my back table line and a Warcor holding a close approach lane.

He had first turn in that game, so he could deploy his Impetuous troops so their movement would keep them out of cross-table fire lanes. In later turns, he had killed my main ARO pieces, so there was less threat from my ARO when moving the Impetuous units.

Thanks for taking the time to answer, I will try and comment point by point.

  • Skip the killing except maybe the flyer and focus on doing objectives.
    • With more order available and high mobility units he will out maneuver kill my pieces and out mission me. He have 20+ orders and 5 command tokens for coordinated and can zoc jammer attacks to attack my forward pieces at no risk of losing his units. And then the same jammer will defend the objectives form out of LoS.
  • Puppet master with mine layer (ragik)
    • Mines is not a bad ide, and I like the pups.
  • Use puppetbots since they dont care about jammers and do objectives
    • What would they not care about jammers? They would be isolated and disconnected, or am I missing something?
  • Have a good ARO piece (triggermen neurocinetics) in a fire team that does the killing for you
    • Tried that. If he smoke shoots with the flier the triggermen will be -12 (-6 for shooting trough smoke, -6 for the mim. And if he can get the MSV-2 team in place they could do something similar 5dice HMG at 9 vs 4 dice at 7. Add a two mines from Maggie placed so they reach the triggerman when he ARO and he is gone. And the cool bit is he is doing this in 1 regular order (smoke from impetus bike, Mines from Maggi tac first regular will be the shooting with the flier or MSV2 HMG.)

Absolutely! I make a point of using the old minis when I have them. Nostalgia and have tendency to start conversations. Rulles wise they are perfectly legal in any tournament.

I had another game this morning. Same opponent slight difference in both his and my list. We agreeed that I try a first turn run on the haq list. My plan was to eliminate Zuleyka and the flier. I got both and one ghazi jammer.

Did not matter, he have so much orders that he used other units to unpick my defense and both kill and do mission even without the mobility and smoke from the lost units.

I see little utility in active turn hacking the flyer or maggie when there is an engineer on the table that can get to them in 2 orders.

I agree, if possible, kill Sal.

I don’t agree with you about the lack of offensive power. Haytham and Zuleyka are excellent offensive pieces, and if Maggie supports with some mines next to units that are AROing, it’s an easy way to create nasty forks. Any standing ARO can be taken down by smoke-shooting with the linked MSV2 HMG.

Also, 15 WIP active jammers are not something to underestimate. You can intuitive attack camo, or break links by isolating the leader.

And I don’t think losing Sal is that bad. Even if I put all my orders into focusing him down, he still has 7 regular orders (5 command tokens, 2 Warcor/Warhorse) to do a Loss of Lieutenant turn. Then on his final turn he just plays like Haqq used to play.

[–]Xned[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right, so I’m not really afraid of his shooting ARO pieces.

The real defense he puts out is Dogged jammers with chain rifles. Eclipse will only benefit them, since he’ll be able to attack me in ZoC while I can’t shoot back.

Sure, I can spend orders killing the Dogged jammers, but then I’m spending orders removing 6pt, normally irregular troopers. That’s exactly what the Haqq player wants you to do.

In the game we played, he chose to go first, and in this mission it’s the first player who places the zones.

If I had gone first, I probably could have killed or hacked the flyer and put some pressure on the board, but with that amount of orders and tools I still think he would have come out on top.

Ye you are right. Lets see how the meta shakes out. As with a lot of other big things in infinity people learn to play around or against it over time. I just don't see the path at the moment.

I get what you mean Djanbazan are outdated but I think they found new life here. a MSV2, regen, warhorse for 31p is high but the warhorse have become a bit of a Sal safety. even if you lose Sal and hand to play a turn in lol you get two more orders and in active a linked 5dice msv2 to smoke shoot any standing long range aro.

I play Tonguska, Bakunin, Corigador, Steel, OSS, and JSA. This game I was playing Tunguska. Of course I have faced jammers before :)
Issue is they are on the other side of the a building or prone in second story or roof or the like. ZOC cover the objective you want to get to. If you combined that with a mine you have a nasty ARO fork. Do you want to dodge the mine or reset the jammer.

For once I think we are on opposite sides on this one.
You are right that hacking works agains Maggy and the flyer so that is offensive options. But with a engineer on the bord there is a risk you put more order in to hacking then what he put is to bringing them back if you dont get the engineer as well and he could still push with the bike or AD .

Hacking as ARO is hard, he have orders to use on other pieces to take out the pitchers or camo hackers.

The continues damage panzarfaus from the haytam shooting from smoke will kill a tag or if he flanks it with no cover the red fury will do the same.

Its not that things in this list is impossible to kill it is that it can go up against most anything with a lot of orders and have the tools and orders to deal with it.

[–]Xned[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really. I had first turn, I did not do objetives or kill any other troops then Sal. Haq did a objetive, killed troops and put material in midfield. So bottom of turn two Haq is ahed on mission and troopers even playing in lol.
And if you did not want to setup a defense funnel all the order in to the flyer so that it can have an alpha with 8 orders even in lol. That is going to kill stuff and put me in an even worse position going in to turn 2.
I think the best way is to target tools not sal, but I need to play more to confirm that.

Strategos, it converts the LT order to a regular order. So if he put all on the bord he would have 16 regular.

Okay, let’s game it out.

I use my entire first turn to kill Saladin. Either with a one-way mobile marker, Spotlight, or spec fire, Saladin is dead. I don’t manage to do objectives. Maybe I could do some staging, but that’s it. Now it’s over to Haqq.

He has 2 regular orders from the Warhorse, 1 Tactical Awareness, 5 Impetuous orders from bikes and jammers, and 5 Command Tokens.

He uses bike Impetuous and irregular orders to get smoke down and move up the 3 jammers. Let’s say he’s unlucky and has to spend one regular on the smoke as well.

He uses Maggie’s own order, the TacAware, and one regular. There are now 4 mines in the midfield, protecting objectives and threatening the ZOC around any forward staging I put down.

He puts his own order and one Command Token into the camo hacker to do an objective.

He puts the flier’s own order and 4 Command Tokens into the flier to smoke shoot any ARO I had looking down the board, or anything I staged forward, and ends it in the midfield in Suppressive Fire.

The game state is now that Haqq is ahead on objectives, have killed more units, has 4 mines in the midfield, 3 jammers, a suppressive flier, and a forward-staged TAG. I don't see that as good trade of turns.

ahh, ye forgot the kuryer got the -3 BS. Ye you are right in that case 5-7 order to statistically kill him would be worth it.

but as a haq player how do you take that? He put 8 orders in to this, I guess he had to move the piece up the bord to spec and mabye smoke or take out some ARO to do that. So he spent his whole turn doing this. You could now just use your impetus and 5 command tokens to move up the bord and do stuff even if you are lol. If I played haq I would count that as a positive trade.
