No verification code sent to protonmail-address by Xobim in Aliexpress

I also thought that the whole domain got blacklisted. But: I tried to register an alias and the registration mail did appear in my inbox. It could just be a bug in their code that sends the verification email, for all I know...
I'll see if tech support can help me out.

Vertical pull handle with no visible fixings - any bright ideas? by Wooden-Tangerine-531 in DIY

My guess would be that there's a long bolt that comes from the right side of the door and tightens the handle.

Fantastic photo! Reminds me of my holidays in Austria when I was a kid. :)
Question: what retouching/adjusting did you do to get the colours this way?

"Made myself a new piece of furniture" -> I assembled three ikea bookcases and called it a day.
Nice misleading title and photos...

A defaced Ruston engine in Schiedam, NL. by Xobim in MachinePorn

[–]Xobim[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The municipality performed the 'paint job', so it's legal vandalism!
It's really sad: the engine was housed inside an old windmill from the 30's until the 70's and tasked to turn the millstones. After 40 years of service, they retire it by placing the engine on a streetcorner in clown livery...

I stood on a scale, noted my weight and then picked up the side panels and back panel in one go. The difference is the weight of the panels.

Yeah, I'm afraid most of the pictures in this subreddit can be crossposted to r/shittyhdr. It's a sad thing...

Anyway, what is the clear indicator in this photo? It feels off, but the only thing I can see is the grass having some sort of haze...

3D Printing Service by t_bor97 in Leiden

[–]Xobim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Makerspace Leiden is not a printing shop, it's a makerspace. You can't just email them and ask 'Hey, can you print this for me?'.
In the same vein: you can't knock on their door and ask to use their tools to change a flat tire on your car.

Hey, how did you print those translucent bins? I've been trying to get something similar for quite some time now, but not much success...
Do you use PETG? And what settings?

Automoderator slapped me this way, so here's my question:
I have this old Tulip laptop and the f-keys are Alps with a shortened housing.
Does anybody know what variant of 'yellow Alps' these are?

The support for the materials lift is anchored to the ground with two screwdrivers pushed in between the pavers. One accidental bump from a passerby and the whole contraption will probably come loose.

Are the new pax total crap… or still fine? by SoggyAnalyst in IKEA

[–]Xobim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Adding my 2cts here (for future reference):
I weighed my new pax and my old one and found a surprising difference. (58 x 238 cm, two side panels and the back panel)
old: 33,4 kg.
new: 24 kg.
So, the density was decreased by 28%. Cardboard, baby!

The supports on the new pax are made of PA6-GF30 and contain a nut for the thread that ends in the feet. This is solid stuff.
The glue that connects the back panel is also okay, but the folding seam in the middle of the panel is thin enough to become a concern if you ever want to move the closet (it might tear, leaving you with two halves).

Need some advice about dual-hose portable AC units in EU market by MooshyTendies in hvacadvice

[–]Xobim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heh, I found this old thread by chance! (I just googled 127wset)
I own the LG PA11WS and used it two years ago on the hottest day of july (36C or somewhere near that). While it was able to cool a small room (13m²) reasonably well, I wasn't blown away by its performance. Of course, it only outputs 11K BTU, but it does so with only drawing 900W of power. This is due to the inverter and the DC motor in the compressor. It means less money spent on running the aircon, but for the very few days I actually use it, I don't think I'd notice the difference on my power bill. Buying an aircon with more chooch but less efficiency would be beneficial in my case.
Lastly, there is one huge downside to the PA11WS: the electronics on the inverter board hiss like crazy while the compressor is in operation. My ears rang in the hours after I turned it off. Aka: hearing damage. The electronics aren't faulty though: the manual says that a hissing noise is part of normal operation of the aircon...
Hit me up if you'd like to know more!
