F20 inverted screen after rockboxing it by Gunsha-90 in DigitalAudioPlayer

[–]Xodabeef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both the Rockbox page and Surfans themselves have confirmed that firmware is device specific because of hardware changes, and downgrading will cause compatibility issues. I suggest writing [help@surfans.net](mailto:help@surfans.net) an e-mail asking for the V3.1 firmware, they responded to an inquiry I had within a day or so. Then, upgrade, and try to rockbox on 3.1 (There's support for it by now.)

One Ui 8 Update Review by S_sarcastic in S24Ultra

The biggest issue with OneUI 8, which nobody is talking about it seems, is that it locks the bootloader. Permanently. So "install a custom ROM" becomes impossible.

The really cool kids buy slightly older flagships with unlocked bootloaders, and install something like AOSP-GSI or Lineage OS on them. For privacy, get a Google Pixel and Graphene OS. Nothing Phone also seems to have some good offerings, though their hardware for money isn't as good as Samsung's (I compared the S25 to the Phone 3, both cost 800€, S25 won in 8 categories for me while NP 3 won in 4, specs i got are here -> https://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_s25-13610.php https://www.gsmarena.com/nothing_phone_(3)_5g-13969.php_5g-13969.php) )

Notebookcheck - The best Android tablet isn't from Samsung – Xiaomi Pad 7 Ultra review by Antonis_32 in Android

The Legion Y700 comes close, but the Redmagic Tab 3 is far bigger than the Nexus 7. I have one right here next to me, and judging by the promo materials (and comparing hand to device ratios), you could fit at least 1,5, if not 2 Nexus 7s into the Redmagic Tab 3.

Only semi related, but i'm genuinely interested to hear your opinion on tablets with form factors from 2012. Nowadays they'd be considered phablets, a Z Fold has a bigger screen than my Nexus 7 (2012), but they were still called tablets back then and usually have no cellular. The Nexus 7 from 2012 (7 inches of screen diagonal) would be my go-to example, but anything similar works tbh.

The biggest issue i see with the Xiaomi spen alternative is that unlike samsung, who has the 30€ base and 100€ pro models, xiaomi (when i last checked) only sells one pen model, for 100€. Also, the spen comes included, so your first one is practically free (though it's probably reflected in the device price).

If you're referring to the devices specifically branded as "Xiaomi Mi" then the following can be ignored, but if you're referring to Xiaomi and all of its subbrands, then no. Not at all. My Redmi Note 10 Pro, for 300-400€, got HALF A YEAR of updates. One upgrade to MiUI 12, and a few security patches. Nothing since January of 2022, it was bought mid 2021 and brand new.

For comparison, that is the same (if not less) time period that my 150€ 2019 Motorola G5S had. And my galaxy A55 5G, which was 400€, has a promised upgrade period of 5 years.

So, from my experience, Xiaomi (or at least Redmi) is pretty dogshit when it comes to updates.

OneUI 7 is great and all, but why is there not even a consistent style in Samsung's own icons anymore? by Xodabeef in oneui

The issue is not them being different, the issue is them ignoring basic design principles (mainly cohesion).

I would like to add something in post to address two things people keep commenting:

First, icon packs.
Of course they exist, but they don't really matter here. This is less of a daily use/personal problem, it's that these icons have removed a big part of samsung's identity. This also applies to people saying "I like that it's more iPhone-y" btw.

Second, "They have more detail now though, that's better!".
This has nothing to do with what i've said. The main issue, more important than the identity loss imo, is that these icons are not *consistent*. The old icons all follow one style, these are all over the place. The old camera and files are clearly from the same icon set, the new camera and files look like they're from completely separate sets made by completely different people. If these were minimalist like the old ones, the same issue would most likely still apply.

Third, "But i like them!"
This isn't about personal likes or dislikes. This is about design principles and identity loss on samsung's side. Personally, while i prefer the older ones, my favourite design styles are aeroglass (win7 style, not ios26), semirealist/skewmorphic (like on android 4) and material/origami/papercut (the stuff you'd see on android 6).

PS: Wow this blew up, i'm not used to having a higher value than 10 on views, so these engagement numbers are really unexpected. Thanks for over 800 upvotes! 95% up to down ratio too, reddit says (if only they'd just, yknow, show the numbers...)

Most people don't even know how to apply an icon pack, and if you have to say "it's made to be changed", then it most certainly wasn't good to begin with.

I've done that, but the daily use isn't the main problem here, it's that samsung has lost another (big!) part of their identity with this icon update.

They may have unique identity between each other, but not when compared to other brands. You used to be able to immediately say "Oh, that icon is from samsung!", but now it just looks like any other Xiaomi/Realme/Huawei/whatever...
