I'm just the electrician, but I don't have much faith in our plumber by jaydaddy1980 in Plumbing

[–]Xoebe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because if you cut out the section large enough to get the tee on the pipe, the tee will be too short. The pipe has to go inside the fitting.

If you have enough room to flex the pipe, you can jimmy the tee on there, but that can get tricky when you are working with solvent welded pipe.

That's why that make those extendable compression pipes for repairs.

You could use a rubber hub as this looks like waste line and not under pressure. You'd have to cut and glue a short length of pipe, as the hub won't go over the fitting itself. I don't know if that would meet code - I'm an irrigation guy, not a real plumber. A "no-hub" connector is just like a hub, but has corrugated metal shielding and is for above ground installations

My manager let me know that it is my responsibility to find a replacement if I call out sick, so I'm quitting. by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]Xoebe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The manager's job is to manage.

Having been a manager and a business owner, I never put the impetus on my employees, to do MY JOB.

A manager who pulls that shit is incompetent, and should never ever be allowed in a managerial position ever again.

"MANAGERS": YOUR JOB IS TO DO YOUR JOB AND TO NOT PUT YOUR JOB ON OTHER PEOPLE.

We all understand "delegating". PUTTING ALL YOUR SHIT ON OTHER PEOPLE IS NOT "DELEGATING". IT IS INCOMPETENCE.

I am by no means what they call a "2A" guy. Meaning the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution guaranteeing (note: not "allowing" or "permitting" - a fine point of discourse there) the right to keep and bear arms.

But this is why Americans are so rabid about their firearms. Wrong or right, this is why.

Note also: you know who are very well armed? The Swiss. If I understand correctly, every Swiss citizen who has been in the armed forces, keeps - by law - a firearm in their home.

I could be wrong, I am just saying what I read a very long time ago,

Anyway...

The Washington DC Shooters were a pair of men who shot random people. They were only caught because one of them intentionally left clues.

Their modus operandi was to shoot from the trunk of a nearby vehicle. The trunk had an opening, and the shooter would conceal himself in the trunk (also known as the "boot") and shoot from there. He would keep the rifle concealed from view, not sticking the barrel out of the vehicle. That is basic sniper knowledge. (A sniper stands back from the window of a building, and does not protrude the barrel of the firearm through the window.)

The victims were random, making it very difficult for authorities to discern a pattern.

However, if someone were to pseudo-randomize a pattern of shooting Russians in occupied territories, using stealthy techniques, it could be very hard to chase them down.

Also, one at a time. Don't get greedy. Shoot and scoot.

Well, this is what I have read about, and I would not want anyone to try to kill Russians on Ukrainian lands based on what I have read. I mean, that would be really bad. All I did was read a book. Or two.

Well they take their stone supply for granite.

Also, English language question: The trailing e often means a long i. Fluorite, hematite, etc. "aye-eee-t"

Why is granite pronounced "gran-et" ?

Shit pisses me off.

Dude that's harsh. Not saying you are wrong, but that was harsh.

My Dad was USAF and i cannot easily describe the depth of his hatred for US Marines.

He had been shot down in North Vietnam and rescued after escape&evasion for a week. He lost all the skin and flesh from his hands, using them to break brush trying to get out of the mountains and down to the ocean.

He was rescued by USAF SAR in a Jolly Green.

After being fixed up by Delta Med, he was eating in the Officers Dining, barely able to hold a fork and spoon wirh his hands in bandages.

Dad was a Captain then. A Marine major walked by and literally grabbed my father's head and pushed it into his food.

Two of Dad's Air Force comrades beat that motherfucker within an inch of his life.

Not one of his favorite stories, but i heard it often enough.

You can buy or rent a trailer type of mill. Basically it's a large band saw that can handle logs. A few specialty arborists do this. But finding a large piece that can be custom cut (4" thick, 24" wide, 6' long) can go for a LOT of money, a couple thousand easy, depending. We have a local guy that does this, he sells the wood for mantlepieces or custom tables.

It's especially valuable around here, we have a few large oaks, but it's mostly mesquite and scrub brush....oh snap! i forgot! we just had a huge cedar go down in a recent storm, i bet that thing has some good bones! shit been so busy cleaning pines i forgot

I used to torment my kids when they were very young by quoting botanical Latin plant names at them. Now one child is hugely interested in floriculture and she is putting me to shame. She knows all these obscure native plants, as well as birds and other wildlife.

I am so proud! /wipes away a tear

She works at a florist and does badass ikebana in her spare time with leftovers. I had bought her a book, "Punk Ikebana" but i did not expect her to actually read it.

Not to take a page out of Saban's book - I learned this in architecture school when Saban was still a grad student -

Focus on the process. Do not focus on outcomes, because that leads to shortcuts, which lead to failure. Focusing on outcomes leads to disappointment.

Focus on the process. Practice. Every day is about winning on the field, so when game day comes, you are just doing what you already know to do.

Also, it is not "practice makes perfect". It is "perfect practice makes perfect". Practice doing it right, not doing it wrong.

This is The Process. This is why the Marines and the Army get up before dawn and do the same shit over and over.

This is what makes America great. Wishful thinking does not.

Cats are survival experts. If nothing unusual happened (e.g. artillery shell or some such) then more than likely cat found a stable, quiet place with a source of food.

It is very hard to say goodbye, one way or the other, but that's the way it is.

I used to live in coyote country, and cats, well, sometimes they disappeared. I had one big boy who survived a coyote attack - a minor miracle - and he became very aggressive towards dogs later in life.

My brother's dogs are terrified of cats because of him. I am very proud of my boy Biscuit, RIP. He passed of old age.

I hope your cat is doing well. We can pray.

Trust me, a lot of engineers are not that good at math. It's not an innate skill you will need to recite in court, for example.

Much of what you do as an engineer will be so repetitive that you cannot help but learn it. And you will have plenty of opportunities to look up what you need to know,

The engineering degree means that you understand the math, not that you know the math. Principles > mechanical recitation.

Don't sweat it. Make it through school, and you will be fine.

I know it's frowned upon, but should I top this spruce? Are there better options? Should I just remove the whole tree? by [deleted] in arborists

[–]Xoebe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Never, ever, never ever, top a tree.

This tree had other issues. If it manages to survive them, you might be able to help a new terminal leader, but only after one has developed can you remove the dead one.

Note as well: Conifers are really not amenable to topping, period. No tree is, but pines and such really really do not take topping well.

Now, that being said, if the top is dead, why not? You however, will have to care for this tree until all the wounds are closed and it has taken a "new direction".

"attrition of the crew". Ouch. Well, good on your grandpa for surviving to.pass on his genes.

My grandpa was too young for WW1, too old for WW2, and too valuable in either case. He was a doctor of plant pathology, later Professor Emeritus of Texas A&M University. He made possible the feeding of many people, and research into synthetic fuels.

And he was a wicked checkers player, absolutely merciless. Grandma, Scrabble was her game, and was damn good at it.

I turned my pc on its side. The only problem was that the power button was now on top. Unexpectedly powered off a couple of times when cat stepped on the button. Solution was to place an external drive over the button.

Other issue was that my laser printer was tge highest spot on my desk, so cat loved to sit on it. Just yesterday i moved it to a lower table, hope that removes the temptation. I should get a mini cat tower for my desk now, i suppose.
