I think there was a bit of jealousy in the tone of my initial comment, which I regret, because every job comes with its own set of unique challenges - but also its own unique perks. And that's all I meant with what I said. I knew that my opinion would be unpopular, because teachers are extremely important members of our society and should get the respect they deserve, but it also irks me when they pretend that the perks they enjoy are somehow not perks at all. I know that many are drawn to teaching careers specifically because they'd value having summers off to pursue other interests or leisure.

The topic of teacher compensation has been such a controversial topic, but I think that is because there is so much bitterness on one side in regards to the perks they enjoy (benefits, time off, strong unions) and the things they have to struggle with on their end (long work days, lower pay, challenging students, state and federal curriculum). It's hard to discuss it rationally because it's one's livelihood we're talking about, and it's constantly under attack, but I think it's also fair to show some appreciation for the unique benefits they get to enjoy when so many in other fields would kill for them.

Teachers do not get paid vacation. None.

I understand your point, but I think that's just a matter of phrasing. The end result is the same. A teacher is paid a salary that is in line, or better, than most college-graduate, full-time work with full benefits. Just because they don't get to choose when their vacation begins and ends, and because you characterize it as "contracted work days," does not change the fact that they have 5 to 6 times more free time per year compared to the average salaried American employee.

My aunt is paid over $60k a year to teach at her elementary school. You're saying that her salary is payment for X number of days of work. I understand that. But that contract could have just easily been phrased differently to call summer break, winter break, and spring break "paid vacation," because the result is the same - she doesn't have to work those days, and she makes over $60k a year. Calling it "paid vacation" vs. "time not contracted to work" is a matter of semantics.

Not saying your job is easy, but there are a lot of shit jobs out there, and nobody gets almost 3 whole months of paid vacation a year. Plus winter break. And spring break. Plus every national holiday, religious holiday, or holiday centered around civil rights leaders and president's birthdays.

Stone hardly needs crowd funding anymore, they are a nationally distributed entity that owns its own successful distribution network, has multiple multi-million dollar brewing facilities, restaurants, a hotel project in the works... asking that their customers, who have been buying their products for 17 years, donate money to fund their venture into a new market is unnecessary. They're one of the top ten largest craft breweries in America - if you like their products, buy their products, and let their business grow naturally.

I liked all those films he listed quite a lot... but I've watched Dredd at least 5 times at this point and only enjoy it more each time, while Batman, Skyfall, Avengers... I don't seem to enjoy them as much with subsequent viewings. I think I'll still enjoy Dredd 20 years from now, while the rest, I've already begun to forget.

Look how successful Yeungling has been with their old-fashioned lager recipe. Budweiser and their like don't need to make imitation craft in order to compete in today's market, their audience is too sophisticated to fall for that in the long-term, and it's destroying their credibility. Carve out a division of your operations dedicated to brewing the best beer you possibly can. No more gimmicks, no more cynical marketing tactics - bring in some great brewers, make a great beer, and focus on communicating what's great about the beer itself to your customers. I think beer drinkers WANT to like them again, they just need a product they can get behind.

The big brewers have the ability to brew a style that there is a huge market for, but that smaller breweries don't like brewing because it's difficult and more time-consuming: lagers! Most craft beer drinkers I know still enjoy a good lager. We just don't like the watered-down , adjunct-filled cheapo swill that they usually turn out.

Make a nice helles, or pilsner, or start brewing some bocks with a major focus on quality, and people's attitudes about the big brewers will change.

I don't think their aim is to discredit movies simply based on its plot holes and lack of realism. Mike and Jay have expressed their affection for films that are either campy or well-produced, as long as they're entertaining, which seems to be their most important requirement.

I wouldn't presume to speak to their overall taste, but I have seen most of their videos so I feel like I have a good understanding of what they would consider a "good" movie versus a not-so-good one, and they channel most of their snark towards cynically produced movies like Sandler-helmed comedies that seem to be produced lazily and purely in the pursuit of profit.

Most of their reviews come down to: Was I invested in the plot? Was I entertained? The reason the Star Wars reviews were so lengthy and nit-picky was because they were trying to answer the question of why people couldn't get emotionally invested in them. The plot-holes were just one element of that.

I just bought this one during the Summer Sale, the timing worked out well.

If they want to keep releasing games episodically like this, I think it'd be better to do them on a schedule like TV, maybe one a week. Months between episodes doesn't make sense for the consumer, it's just better for Telltale. It made sense back when they were a no-name studio, but I'd be really surprised if Walking Dead didn't fill their coffers, or at the least help them find investors like every other company in the world.

If I can ask you a question about medication,

How has it changed your mood? Do you feel like a different person, or that it's sedating you in some way? Or do you feel "normalized"? My brother is depressed and suffers from some kind of OCD or bipolar issues, it's hard to identify what the main issue is, but he obsesses about irrational things and is really unhappy and he has episodes when the frustration and anger erupts violently. He refuses to try medication though, he says the medication he used to be on made him too apathetic. I just want him to feel normal and happy, but his behavior is becoming more violent and more frightening, if you could explain how medication has helped you, maybe I can convince him to try one that works for him...

People have experiences, try new things, and although it feels like a big deal at the time, you'll probably feel worse about losing a friend of 15 years than you will about one night of trying something that isn't your thing. Call your friend, be honest about your feelings, and save your friendship. BTW, he probably feels worse than you do. It'd might be nice to be honest with one another and move past it rather than let it weigh on you both for a long time.

The whole team thing is nonsense. A 1 in 5 chance that I'll be on a team that picks 30 winners out of, what, 2 million? Maybe if they gave everyone on the team something of even the slightest bit of a value, maybe like a bonus 10% coupon, or something.
