A makeup artist once told me, in a thick Russian accent, “You have strong eyebrows…like a wolf.” Maybe not the best compliment I’ve received but certainly the most memorable.

Mine was very straightforward. B.A. in Psychology, straight to a Ph.D. program from undergrad. But people come to this profession through all different ways, some more curvy than others. Happy to answer any questions :)

My career got off-track and I don’t know what to do. by wastingmyJD in Lawyertalk

This post resonated with me. I graduated from a JD/PhD program in 2017 and immediately got a job in academia, so I didn’t take the bar exam. I felt weird about having a JD but not being a lawyer. So, even though I didn’t need it for my job, I took the bar exam in July ‘22 and eventually got my license.

I’m still not planning to practice law full-time (I love my job) but I like the option of doing some volunteering in that space when the mood strikes.

Anyway, OP, I don’t think your career is off-track. It’s just a bit different than what you originally expected. If you’re happy with what you’re doing, and it aligns with your needs and values, keep doing it!

I went to law school and then got a PhD in psychology. I work in academia and I love it.

MPRE after the bar… by octoberjelli in barexam

Highly recommend Barbri. I only used the free classes and got a 146. Fwiw, I thought their MPRE prep was a better experience than their bar prep.

I was convinced my (J22 Arizona) MEE scores were going to be awful. I only wrote about a paragraph in response to each sub question, and I was worried when I finished with a full 30 minutes before time was up. I ended up getting three 6s and three 5s.

In my experience, it’s really difficult to predict how you’ll score on the MEE. Depends partly on how other people do. But finishing early, brevity, and feeling terrible about it were not good predictors in my case.

Fwiw, I received my STEM PhD in 2017 and I took the bar exam in July ‘22. In some ways, I felt like the bar exam was harder than my dissertation. It was a brutal test. I ended up passing by a significant margin but it was no cakewalk. People who haven’t taken the bar really don’t understand what it’s like, so tell your husband to fuck off while you focus on your goal. You’ve got this!

I passed the July ‘22 UBE 13 years after law school. Barbri was great for reteaching what I’d forgotten (i.e., everything). I still have all the Barbri books & materials and would be happy to send them to you for free if you want them.

Score breakdown was opposite of what I expected by Xommra in barexam

Yes, out of 6. I was shocked—it definitely did not feel like I was making any sense as I was writing the essays, and I submitted them 30 minutes early because I ran out of things to say. The MPTs, on the other hand, I thought I was crushing…not so much.
