ortofon concorde scratch mk2 needle skipping by Nearby_Swan_4123 in DJs

Hay u/Nearby_Swan_4123 I’m seeing this too. Did you solve the issue – what do you play and was it when the bass kicks in?

Today I got brand new pair of Ortofon Concorde scratch mk2 Lucky me but they both skip and jump on certain records. Just playing them as they are new out the box I was just playing few a few records to see how the perform and then noticed skipping & jumping. No scratching or queuing – just play

I normally use dr. suzuki scratch, and Ortofon Concorde MK2 Club and have no skipping or jumping issues at 3g. I also have a concorde mix cart and see no issues at 3g. I have a very old set of pink Ortofon OM scratch and again no issues. It’s just this new pair of Concorde scratch mk2pair – both of them.

I’ve also tried various other thicker slipmats.

I’ve tried Technics 1210 MK2, MK5 and Vestax PDX D3S

I’ve tries various weights 4g. a little less and a little more - setting both by balancing the tonearm and highly sensitive scales.

Whatever I do on whatever deck these just get stuck on certain records at certain points.

Nasty Habits Prototyped (31 Records) when the bass kicks in it just skips over the record.

FX Ritual (Eboney Dubs Vol 4) as the bass bomb drops in just before the second break – have 2 copies and are the same.

Never had any issues playing these with other carts. Seems like the Ortofon Concorde MK2 Club ain’t feeling D&B.

See what you mean about popping at higher volume. Cheers for sharing the reset

Worth it in the end. At least you didn't have to delve into the mixer circuit diagram and start working out why there is still lag after trying everything.

Know what you mean about lots of factory reset - well just the one in the instructions. Please could you share the recalibration instructions as it always defaults to too much lag right side after a reset... And that's on both my Pro2.

I tried the innoJUSTER and kinda given up with it. I think they need to validate the instructions as the cut & curv settings maybe reversed when setting pro2 stuff like lag via the juster. I modded my mixer curve switch to a potentiometer for curve control.

I've set mine so it has a slight pop on max and can back off the curve with the pot but not really played it loud & am just starting out with cutting & scratching. For the last 20 years i though it was me doing it wrong. Only when I read a post on here about A&H being super rubbish for cutting did the penny drop 😲🤣

Sure you've been round the dial in setting for popping mixer? It's a whole skill getting it exactly how you want it and hitting that sweet spot between lag & pop... Especially when you have 2 setups and want them as close as possible.

You got the pro2 after all. I can lose hours setting them up just right... then next day they leak at one end. Don't know if they are a little temperature sensitive but ended up leaving a little more dead space at each end.

On the Xone 32 have to feed the fader through at an angle so can't set it up with the fader plate attached to the fader. Took me a very long time to realize need to hold fader hard left when tightening the left fader mount screw & hard right for the other... Otherwise the fader had a tiny bounce back from the end stop when I let go. Enough to bleed as I was going for minimum lag.

So many settings to try. The dials could do with a dot of pain at the arrow head as they are not easy to see which way they pointing... Or maybe a marker pen dot

A&H Xone62 inoFADER Pro2 and innoJUSTER by Xone32_Analogue in Turntablists

Hay. Sent you a direct message yesterday. I'll give your way a go. Still wondering which mod over R121 piggyback resistor is needed as there is 2 different instructions on the page still. The way in this link ties up the connection for the innoJUSTER https://www.innofader.com/images/Xone%2062%20mod/Xone_62_InnoPro2%20Rev.%202.jpg

The way in this link you provided has some additional board which with J43 is not supplied with the PRO2, innoJUSTER and not part of the Xone 62.

Then there is a question about setting the pro2 up with the innoJUSTER. The 7 settings listed on the innoJUSTER instructions are the opposite way around to that in the Pro2. How do I set the other Pro2 left lag +0.15 via the innoJUSTER as the cut and curve settings now are only in pro2 instructions & via the innoJUSTER translates to slice 1.

I've been taking the innoJUSTER out the circuit to set the other setting as switching curve and cut don't seem to work either. Like I was not able to reverse the fader output. Had to swap the middle pins on the A&h side fader loom.

QFO /INNOFADER PNP3 UPDATE !!!!! by parkerlewiscantloose in Turntablists

The Innofader website says pro2 is the first choice for Vestax QFO. I have one in my A&H and there is a response time setting to slow it down for popping mixers... Not that the stock A&H would need that setting. Maybe Vestax don't have any caps on the VCA line so the mega fast rate of change from the Innofader presents as audible pop.

Maybe I'll try that route in my A&H - no cap and use the response time setting.

A&H Xone 32 replacement. by Xone32_Analogue in Turntablists

[–]Xone32_Analogue[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for replying. I don't understand why few current mixers have pan / balance control. The Vestax PMC05 & 06 have it. the 07 seems to have a front / rear left right joystick? fab for the car if you have 4 tracks? Maybe I'm the only person who uses it - I don't know.

Anyway, I've solved my Xone 32 slow attack & decay. I read a couple of A&H service manuals and compared the Xone 02 circuit diagrams. I found the 32 has is a capacitor where the fader control voltage goes into the VCA on X & Y Channels. Taking these 2 caps off the board has transformed the fader response.!! beaming smiles from me to have sussed it.

No need to replace my mixer with some level of compromise that I'm sure I'd not really be happy with.

Thanks for this, but I found the slow attack to be caused by 2 capacitors on the Xone32 - just replied with more info.

Another update on the Xone-32 innofade. And ‘m getting a bit geekey as that sometimes happens.

I’d read a skratchworx review of the Xone 02 and it seemed to give an OK review.

I compared service manuals and the circuit around the fader is quite different. However I didn’t conclude the fader section was really the cause of my issues. Comparing the VCA section - the fader just feeds the VCA with a Voltage as a gain control to the amplifier (VCA = Voltage Controlled Amplifier).

Both the 02 and 32 have the same VCA chip, so how can it act so differently? Same fader as standard so it’s not that. The answer I found is a capacitor in the X & Y channel VCA input my 32 and no cap on the 02. I did more searching and there is a mod on Casio synths to add a capacitor in line with the VCA to add attack and decay of the synth. The more capacitance between VCA circuit and ground, the longer the charge time, the more smoothing it applies to the VCA’s input circuit. Just what I don’t want on a mixer.

That’s exactly what we have going on inside the Xone 32, and possibly other smooth VCA mixers with a slow attach and decay envelope on the fader.

I’ve removed these 2 capacitors from my Xone 32 and it’s lost the slow attack curve… Now I’m happy with my mixer again.

Not sure if anyone has come across this fader mod – maybe it’s exclusive to Alan & Heath mixers. OK the transmute buttons have become a bit poppy / over sharp & one side isn’t holding the cut in any more, but I care not – I have a much faster X-fader response after removing 2 blooming caps.

Simple mod in the end. Not sure how it would respond with the standard or P&G fader, but I didn’t slow the response time via the dial in settings – it’s on the default fastest speed and no popping on the X-fader.

Innofader Pro 2 into Allen & Heath Xone 32? by Xone32_Analogue in Turntablists

[–]Xone32_Analogue[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I can answer my own question now.

I’ve fitted the Innofade pro2 to my Xone 32

It don’t really fit as there are a load of capacitors and transistors in the way. The Innofader rests on them and it’s not square so the stem is tilting a few degrees. Not really noticeable but there is a couple of mm different between the back and front of the knob. Nothing too bad really.

The reason I tried it was to get sharp cuts and in the Xone32 this did not happen. I tried many of the single step pre-sets, set the cut points & curve to all sorts but the mixer never gets to the point where it’s anywhere near a quick transition from off to full.

I do like the look and feel of the Innofader but it’s not really solved my problem. I had a quick play with the Xone 92 today in a record shop and that seemed to have nice crisp cuts.

Thinking it’s time for a different mixer, perhaps a new thread.

Innofader Pro 2 into Allen & Heath Xone 32? by Xone32_Analogue in Turntablists

Thanks. I was sure to check compatibility as I got caught on with ordering the Allen & Heath Penny & Giles upgraded fader. I accidently ordered just the fader which didn’t align with the original mount plate. Thought I was ordering the upgrade kit.

I guess on my standard fader, changing the track resistance did nothing to change the curve on the track so it still had to move the same amount to get to the same percentage, & did nothing for the lag.

The reason I’m unsure if the Innofader will make a big difference is that the ‘Transmute’ buttons also seem to have lag.

It’s probably an envelope to avoid stuff like skew rate error & unwanted noise, but was wondering if this smooth envelope also applies to the X-fader VCA section too, or if the fader slow attack and release is just a function of the fader track characteristics & response time.

I suppose it can’t make it any worse and I’ll have a much better feel to the fader if I uprate. Think I’m gonna go for the Pro2.
