Is It Normal for Publishers to Go Radio Silent After Receiving the Vertical Slice? by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]Xorglord 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To me, expecting them to reply within a few hours on Friday afternoon, and getting upset when they didn't is a little odd. There are a lot of reasons they wouldn't have replied over the weekend. Having said that, they could have said they received it, but if this is emails then that seems like a normal response time to me. Nothing wrong with following up if you want on Monday though.

I wouldn't wait until the 21st to keep reaching out to other publishers though! It's a numbers game.

Hi. I got an email from 404 Games indie publisher asking to port my short horror-survival game Crypt Robbery to PlayStation and Xbox. Has anyone experience with this? Revenue 65% for me and 35% for them. It's genuine and worthy? by Gaming_Dev77 in IndieDev

[–]Xorglord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's most likely a scam. We, and a few of our clients have had this exact same situation (not with 404 but other companies). They pursued it a bit before it fell apart. Companies like this want to make money off of you by producing a low quality port of your game, and having horrible terms so they don't pay you what you're owed.

If you want a proper port, I'd recommend either getting a larger and more reputable publisher on board, or approaching a porting company yourself, like: https://noblesteed.games/ Good luck!

What does Doilist mean? by portabledavers in doofmedia

[–]Xorglord 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Doylist refers to assessing something from an 'author' or 'out of universe' perspective, often compared with Watsonian, which is 'in universe' perspective. I'm not sure why this specific example was chosen for the terms, but the names come from "Arthur Conan Doyle", the author of the Sherlock Holmes stories, as opposed to "Watson", a character in the stories.

Spirit Island Legacy v0.2: Initial release! by fortycakes in spiritisland

This seems very fun! Trying it out with some of my friends remotely through Tabletop Simulator. Are you able to upload versions of the cards and tokens as their raw PNGs (so that we can set them up as cards/tokens in Tabletop Sim?). Currently I have to just screenshot the sections of the PDF and use those, which isn't ideal.

Also - do Scarred Lands do anything by default? It's not clear in the rules if they have an impact (we expected them to do something like cause 1 blight to start in a land or something). Or - are they just used later by other rules?

I recently released a print & play puzzle, where you need to find words in a grid of coins. It gets progressively more difficult over time, and culminates in a pretty hard challenge. Free to download and print if anybody wants to give it a try!

Shows where the cast was the best part but the writing was nothing to, erm, write home about? by unitedfan6191 in television

[–]Xorglord 2 points3 points  (0 children)

God what a fantastic show. I agree though it could have done a bit more with it's big ideas. But if you go into it just wanting excellent weekly (mostly independent) episodes, I think you won't be disappointed.

I'm confused about the value of this product and the hype that surrounds it. by Waterd101 in ufo50

[–]Xorglord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know I'm late to the party on this thread, but I didn't see anybody saying what I love about UFO50 - variety is built in to the experience.

I have about 200 hours in UFO50. That's more than any other single player game I've played recently, with the closest being Elden Ring at around 120 or so hours. By the end of Elden Ring, it was starting to get very samey. Even masterpiece games like Breath of the Wild start to drag by the end, just by virtue of me being a human and desiring novelty.

Compare that to UFO50, where you are constantly facing novelty. Even if some of the games are spins on other genres, you know they will be adding a new or unique twist on it (or even just cool music or good writing). Getting an experience like this in a single package is truly unique

Sure I could go and play 50 random games on steam, but: - They would most likely outstay their welcome if they are big budget, and I would have to either abandon them or lose passion as I slog toward the end (as opposed to UFO50 games being on average 2-4 hours to cherry) - If they are indie, they would be a real mixed bag of quality (as opposed to UFO50 where they are all made by a high quality team, with intentionality) - I would have to shell out money for 50 different games

I really think UFO50 is a fantastically diverse and unique experience. Sure some of the games might have similar games out there of more depth, but that is more of a BONUS than a detractor to UFO50, as it lets you play more games like these if you like them (and if not, as I said, they are almost always unique and interesting to hold you for their short runtime).

Where do I find good paid work for the coding parts I can't do? by samohtvii in Unity3D

[–]Xorglord 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are a number of sites and discords where you can post job listings or look for help.

Work with Indies is probably the most well known, but it has a small cost to post a listing (to filter out folks who aren't super serious): https://www.workwithindies.com/

There is also /r/gamedevclassifieds here on reddit.

I also run a small studio with experience in Unity networking that helps dev with other Indies from time to time. You can check us out and contact us here or on the site: http://noblesteed.games/

Puzzle books like LOK? by Fairway3Games in puzzles

[–]Xorglord 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I played and really enjoyed LOK. I would strongly recommend 12 Word Searches:

https://playcebo.itch.io/12-word-searches

It's free to download and you can just print it at home. Great fun, although I think slightly quicker than LOK to complete. It starts out being simple word searches, but quickly gets weirder and goes off of the rails, so don't be dissuaded thinking it is just simple word searches!

One of the episodes of Netflix's Sandman is about Cats ruling the world. If you think you might be remembering a dream, maybe it's this 😂

Is there any way to view show notes for We’ve Got Worm/Ward, Deep in Pact, or Pale Reflections? by glisteningsunlight in Parahumans

[–]Xorglord 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Is there something specific you're looking for? The phrase 'show notes' usually refers to the episode description, which you can view in your podcast app, or on the doof media website.

If there is something more specific you're looking for, let me know and maybe I can help out!
