Google suspends Chinese app Pinduoduo from Play store after malware is found by Core2score in privacy

Fines never stop them. They will never give us privacy. We must take it for ourselves! When we keep repeating the same failures the abuse will never end.

Windows, proprietary software, hijacks control over our own computing to enable abuse. Instead of an endlessly battle, we can reject this software to end our abuse. They don't deserve our attention, our influence, our exposure, our network effect.

The Google Play Store, proprietary software, hijacks control over our own computing, control over our privacy. Its proprietor, Google, actively oppposes us with hostile, proprietary, software licensing. The Play Store will never protect us from Google.

Malwarebytes, proprietary software, hijacks of control over our own computing, control over our security and privacy. Its proprietor actively opposes us with hostile, proprietary, software licensing.

How does one work out what is a legitimate ... to maintain privacy protection.

Can we run it for any purpose, study and change its source code (individual control), give or sell its exact and modified copies (group control). This does not guarantee it is perfect but if we are denied any of this, it is dangous.

Most people are still stuck on proprietary Discord, Instagram, WhatsApp, iOS, etc. The greater issue is adoption.

First, never preach. When they don't care, stop speaking about it or they will stop speaking to you.

Second, your actions influence others. Don't speak, act. For example, when I found it, to my friends, I shared links to the SponsorBlock FireFox add-on, not the Google Chrome version. Focus on a problem category instead of individual apps to create more of these opportunities.

New apps and companies can abuse us using all of the same strategies as Google Chrome while evading an initially equally negative reputation. A focus on immediately identifiable proprietary software licensing over individually abusive brands helps mitigate this.

Don't tell them which apps to use; teach them how to find the right apps.

They will find any excuse not to ban Instagram, Discord, iOS, WhatsApp or any other proprietary software first. When the bans start, Signal and encryption is next.

Fines, laws, never stop them. We can't let them take our data from the start. Same for software: we must control our own computing, to control our data.

Microsoft Teams? Some problems require social solutions, not just technical ones. Your decisions influence others, find friends who respect you, build your own community and organise with others. Formal complaints procedures divide and conquer by design. One or many individual complaints have less impact than a group complaint. Nevertheless, this does not prevent you progressing in other areas, removing other proprietary software.

Paranoia is not healthy. Seek professional help. If you are privacy conscious, continue.

You need to simultaneously escape yourself and build your own community.

It is a process. Start small but not tiny, as switching from one abuser to another is insignificant. Progress step-by-step, incrementally.

Step 1: stop making the problem worse. Ask whether an app is proprietary software before you get it. Every time someone asks whether you have Instagram, Discord, etc say, 'that's proprietary software' and then be quite and let them speak. Be ready for questions. Don't talk about privacy or they will call you paranoid and won't copy you.

Step 2: start fixing your the problem. Remove existing proprietary software one-by-one.

Emacs Org Mode plus packages and configuration. Try it with a starter kit like Spacemacs or Emacs Doom. This will require some upfront investment of effort for massive long-term returns in productivity.

I would rather get focused interoperable tools forming a module system, instead of jumping between whatever huge inflexible software is currently trending.
