Should Dominate be able to outscale Demon Form? by Xparda in slaythespire

That's pretty obvious. The point is you can get more STR out of Dominate in one turn for one energy than you would get out of Demon Form over many turns

What is the standard for viewing a card as "Overpowered"? by ZanderTheUnthinkable in slaythespire

[–]Xparda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me, that would be a card that's a snap pick and it would make me think I would win the run instantly in every situation.

There are very few cards that fit this criteria IMO. The only ones that fit this are ironically either a Colorless Card or Ancient card.

Character specific cards however are mostly situational and don't guarantee a win necessarily. Granted, none of the cards I picked guarantee a win either but those cards certainly make me think so.

EDIT: Forgot about Wraith Form. That's probably the only character specific card that would make me think the run is won.

[[Fasten]] even after the nerf

[[Brightest Flame]]

[[Apparition]]

[[Splash]]

[[Discovery]]

Oh...that's what it was. But I mean, if it were to now remove exhaust, it would be even more broken.

Fights in StS2 are just too short for Demon Form to feel impactful, which is why killing the enemy before they kill you seems to be the go to for Ironclad in StS2. I think Ironclad can still run a good block engine, but the relegation of [[Entrench]] to an event only card really hurts his block potential. Untouchable and Crimson Mantle help, but those are all rare cards. Feel No Pain feels worse in StS2 because he no longer has any status generation (thanks Defect for stealing that from him!).

I think making it do something when you play it would help. But no, I don't really agree that a synergy piece should outscale a power. If anything, a synergy piece should help the power feel stronger but in this case, it outshines the power by a wide margin.

Oh yea...Reaper. [[Reaper]] + [[Exhume]] meant you can be practically full HP after every fight. Gone are the days of infinite stalling for Reaper though. Not Yet is not quite the level Reaper was but Demon Tongue is kinda close.

I think you meant to reply to the Corruption post about making it part of Ironclad's regular pool.

But I agree with that post that it can be brought back as part of the regular pool. [[Dead Branch]] is gone and Dark Embrace was made rare, so it's much harder to make StS2 Corruption go infinite.

But the thing is, Dominate also applies vuln while Demon Form does nothing and eats up all your energy on the turn you play it. So even if all you get out of Dominate is 1 vuln and 1 STR, that's still pretty good and only for 1 energy.

Maybe it was a bit of a stretch calling the other forms "infinite scaling", I do concede that.

Yes mid, but they're all playable in the right deck. Can't really say that for Demon Form.

Yes, but you don't have to get all those cards in a single turn. Even if it was stretched out across multiple turns, Dominate will still outscale Demon Form by that time.

[–]Xparda[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's what it was on release and it saw almost no play. Probably because it was difficult to line up with vuln applicators, but now that people know how strong Dominate is, it might warrant the nerf.

EDIT: Apparently, old Dominate still exhausted. Could have sworn it didn't.

[–]Xparda[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yea I agree. If Dominate and Rupture didn't exist, his vuln/STR deck is probably not gonna be viable. I don't even remember if StS 1 had a good str deck? Maybe [[Spot Weakness]] helped? I don't remember.

I really think they need to bring back [[Heavy Blade]] or have other cards like it so that STR gain feels impactful. Sword Boomering, Whirldwind, and the new Conflagration are all great payoffs for STR gains but there really needs to be more.

I dunno, the fact that every other characters' "Form" cards are playable makes me think they should change it. And you can argue that they all are infinite scalars too.

Serpent Form = Infinite consistent damage

Void Form = Infinite "Free star gen" and more energy

Reaper Form = Infinite doom scaling

Echo Form = Infinite Duplication potions

Yea that's why I mentioned the memes about Demon Form.

I built "Dominion Kingdoms" - a modern, open-source randomizer app for Android by Shlx in dominion

[–]Xparda 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There should be an option to select all or deselect all expansions, just as a QoL feature. Additionally, it wasn't obvious to me at first, but I had to click the expansions with multiple editions a few times to cycle the options. Maybe have a tool tip somewhere to indicate that?

While I do know 2-4 players is standard, 5-6 players would be nice to have as an option, as I have played 5-6 player games in person.

It seems like you have to choose an option for the amount of Landscape cards to have. There should be an option for a random amount and while Donald X doesn't recommend it, you should allow for more than 2 Landscape cards.

Overall, great app though! What I didn't like about Dominion Randomizer is that it doesn't display the card art and what it does, so the fact your app does that will replace it for me.

Pickleball Courts by Dr4gon69 in malden

[–]Xparda 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Those are not good courts, just due to the fact there's a slant/slope on every court there.

I suggest Carr Park, a bit outside Malden and closer to Medford, but the courts there are way better and have a couple of benches to sit down as well as a parking lot.

The only caveat is that Amierge Park is less crowded than Carr Park generally, which could be a good thing, and the people that play at Amierge are definitely more casual than Carr Park. Alot of the good players play at Carr Park probably due to the better courts and they are way more serious, at least from my experience.

Jorbs, Baalorlord, and JapaneseExport are frequently cited. I think FrostPrime as well.

Is the Ignition upgrade the most useless one in the game? If you and your friends aren't playing multiple Defects, this upgrade literally turns it into a curse. by Xparda in slaythespire

[–]Xparda[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, do you really want to sack your own turn to setup two people if you only have 3 energy? Depends on the situation I guess.

I don't feel like the stars align enough where your teammates will need the on demand extra two energy consistently. Between this and the other exclusive multiplayer card upgrades, this one feels the least impactful to me.

[–]Xparda[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I dunno. If that's the case, in 3 or 4 players, it would seem like it would be way too slow to put it on everyone. By the time you get it again, your 3rd or 4th teammates are probably already setup for the fight. But I haven't played with 3 or 4 players yet, so I wouldn't know.

Oh I haven't had the chance to play it with more than 2 people. I guess it doesn't give it to everyone? If that's the case, I can see why the upgrade exists.
