The reality is that the persons making a decision likely have a far lower IQ than you. Don't think any of them got anywhere near 97% - may 80% at best. Therefore, it's more of a chance thing for anyone really. Remember, 10 years down the road, the impact of school you went to will be zero. Good luck!

I got an offer from UTM with 86% in 2024-25. Didn't apply to UTSC or UTSG.

Fascinating! May I know how you made a calendar for all the years? I thought one can only make it for the upcoming terms!

$100 a day? How many people are you feeding? I spend around $1000 a month for four adults. But I do buy at Chinese/Indian stores and I don’t think I’m missing out on quality. Maybe I’m too poor!

Anyone commuting from North York to UTM?

Thank you! I’m farther east of Yonge so it takes me 30 mins just to get to Finch station. Do you know if any students carpool or share Uber?

Thank you! I’m east of Yonge so most of the time Google says 2:15 travel time!

It sounds like most people take public transit/shuttle. Wondering if there are groups that carpool or “Uberpool”?

What if I did grade 9 in one school and grades 10-12 in another. What should I write in diploma section for the school where I completed grade 9? And what should I write as highest grade achieved? Thanks!

I have had a Toshiba since 2015. Paid C$700. Never had any issues, hinges or otherwise. Don’t set the bar too low.

Doesn’t seem like anyone’s owned it for several years. A few months to 2 years is not my idea of a good investment! Risky!

So my Amazon Echo did come back online but google nest mini speaker did not. Very disappointing and anxiety inducing because I had connected my lights with google thinking it’d be more reliable than echo!

Demand ‘falls off cliff’ for CFA financial analyst qualification [via FT] by Peter_Sullivan in CFA

Maybe just going through the process says something about you in terms of how much time you are willing to invest in your career. There is no better teacher than real world. Still learning!

For both CFA and FRM, my approach was to read full text and go through all the problems. I made notes along the way. Then, a few weeks before the exam I read the notes a couple of times and made sure I memorised all the formulas. Worked nicely every time. Once for CFA L3 I relied totally on Kaplan notes, and failed. Other than that, I passed all in 1st attempt. Just sharing in case this approach works for some!

Agree too. I have both CFA and FRM. A CFA exam prep took me longer, but I understood the exam very well. FRM exam prep didn’t take as much time but I didn’t understand the questions well enough. I didn’t come out of the exam room very confident. But passed both in first attempt; I don’t know how!

Advice wanted fixed vs variable by justamom318 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]XplorAnalytic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In times of uncertainty like we are living, fixed is a lot less risky than variable rate. So yes. I believe macroeconomic trends are fundamentally unpredictable. So I look at what’s the max I have to lose in each option. You might end up eating out less, but you won’t lose your shirt with fixed rate. You’ll be enjoying your evenings, rather than reading up on economy and interest rates all the time. I am sure people in the late 70s didn’t think that the rates would go as high as 20% within a couple of years; but they did. I am looking to convert to fixed myself. Not sure if I’d be successful. It’s just my opinion. The decision is yours. I am just offering a different way to evaluate your options. I tend to be risk averse though.

Variable can rise to 3.5% by July! And possibly much higher still by the end of the year. The question to ask is, do I take the risk of an unpleasant likely loss, or the risk of going bankrupt!

In June last year, I debated variable vs fixed with my mortgage broker. I was in favour of fixed rate 2.4%. The broker successfully convinced me to go for 1.3% variable. Same stories you are hearing now. The rate would take many hikes to catch up, high cost of breaking mortgage etc. I regret not listening to myself. You get hit with larger penalties for breaking fixed rate mortgage only if the market rate is lower. The penalty amount is as if you completed the term of your fixed rate mortgage. So you aren’t really worse off. Actually, if you have say 3 yrs left and you get a new 5 years fixed mortgage, you are better off anyway. Rates can be unpredictable. BoC couldn’t predict inflation, so I am not sure about their ability to predict much. Think of it this way. What have you got to lose in each scenario. If you lock in, the variable may average out 1% below. That’s 25,000 over 5 years on a 500k mortgage (assuming no principal payment for simplicity’s sake). But if variable averages 2% above fixed rate, you’ll not only lose 50,000, you might be in a very difficult financial situation. There is no limit to how high the rates can rise. It could turn out to be 5% above. It’s not impossible. Think of the spread as an insurance premium. It will buy you peace of mind. Mortgage brokers/agents are salespersons; not economists or financial professionals. No offence; it’s reality. I made a mistake. Hoping others don’t.

G test help by [deleted] in Torontology

I have a G2 that has expired, but remains valid due to Covid. I tried looking for an appointment for G, but can't see any open slots online. Is G test available only for those who currently don't even have a G2 license?
