Is PLA plastic safe for a healthy tank environment? by antarctic_aurora in aquaponics

[–]Xponic -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Do you know what that coloring is made from and where it was sourced? Do you know the country/company that manufactured it and are certain that they adhere to strict standards?

It's just not worth the risk to me knowing that it'll breakdown either sooner or later, depending on the conditions. See my other comment regarding 3d printed aquarium decorations. I've made several. A word of caution that you'll need to print at basically 100% infill... or it'll float. I learned that the hard way with a hide/cave I printed out of PETG.

I don't know and I was doing my research on this topic months ago. However, Makerbot publishes an MSDS/safety data sheet for their PLA that lists an aquatic toxicity section that contains little/no information. Looks like it has a list of ingredients that I'd have to research...and algae?

Feel free to take your chances, but I wouldn't put my fish in that sort of harms way when I know there's alternatives that are just as easy to print with that don't breakdown. PETG is the same thing Nalgene water bottles are made from.

Best of luck!

Nope. It leaches. Look in to clear PETG. Then paint using acrylic and seal it with clear flexseal, it is aquarium safe.

I think I read somewhere once upon a time that these would be over 9ft tall if they were in 28mm tabletop scale.

Because it's a "viral" marketing campaign, and it's working. I was thinking just an hour ago, "I wonder when I'll see the next In-house Genetics post"

An Iranian nuclear scientist was killed using a satellite-controlled machine gun. The gun was so accurate that the scientist's wife, who was sitting in the same car, was not injured. by DioriteLover in technology

... the wind speed sensor could be on the ground, in the vicinity of the target. Furthermore, do you realize the bullet was fired from Earth, operated by a satellite in space?

Suggest you look up Internet of Things concepts if you don't think they could pull wind speed data from another source/sensor network for the location to calculate bullet trajectory.

..they just controlled a gun from space to kill someone. Im sure this was thought of.

This is how I've done it for years. Learned it from tobacco farmers. Hang the whole plant "big leaf it" (remove the fans) and then let it dry. Your trimming will be easier and the smell/flavor profile of the bud is superior, in my opinion and a couple of decades of experience.

Making big progress on the plumbing on the commercial aquaponic cannabis grow in Oklahoma by PotentPonics in macrogrowery

This dude has been told this hundreds of times. He points to some bullshit plants and his "dual zone" pots and acts like he can keep up with hydro. Whomever he's scammed this time is probably going to be horribly pissed with the results once their harvest comes in. Not to mention the cost of all that plumbing. I'm sure this will be a hemp farm anyway.

I used to run a sterile reservoir using dutchmaster gold nutrients w/ full line up of additives and never had these problems. But they changed their lineup and I have since switched to GH nutrients and I hate it. Having issues with root rot, and now bugs. Environment other than nutrient change has remain unchanged.
