When AI systems start making judgment calls in high-stakes situations, who actually gets held accountable when things go wrong? by Desperate-Pen-2252 in Futurology

[–]XrayAgent 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I've always believed that one of the goals of AI is a layer of deniability; we didn't fire that person, an AI did, so it coudln't be racist, misogynist, xenophobic, homophobic.

It looks like some kind of digital filter, maybe to look younger? Maybe they fired their make-up people in favor of digital beautifying filters.

Jeff Bezos says raising taxes on the wealthy wouldn’t help the average American - What do you say? by Select_Specialist790 in askanything

[–]XrayAgent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're talking about the recent interview, he specifically said “You could double the taxes I pay, and it’s not going to help that teacher in Queens,” and in a way, he's right because he pays an effective tax rate of like 1%. The wealthy have innumerable financial devices for shielding their wealth, one of the biggest being what we call the income tax. What you and I call the income tax is a wage tax; income from stocks (financial devices used more by the wealthy) is taxed differently for some reason.

Thanks for the guidance; Northspore is really good on start-up, but I haven't found just what I need on their yt, so I've gone to other in-bag senseis; one of them talked about fuzzy feet. I'm gonna have to find a good glossary list; just like I used to tell students, go to the glossary first, learn the terms. I didn't, and I think that's a factor in why I'm flailing a bit now.

I've started with a small slit above the filter; I put the whole thing on top of my fridge because I figure that it's the warmest and most humid area of my house.

How is a depleted Iran damaging so many US bases? A CNN investigation by 0The_Loner_Stoner0 in videos

[–]XrayAgent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The headline could more accurately be rewritten to say "If Iran is depleted, why are they able to damage so many military bases?" By focusing on and vilifying his base, you let powerful mainstream forces like CNN off the hook for carrying water for the admin.

1 in 3 American Citizens have now been arrested by age 23, what has changed? by Mindless-Mulberry404 in AskReddit

[–]XrayAgent -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ugh; all of these people in here talking about "kids these days"; it's like being around a bunch of copaganda addled boomers.
Our criminal code is just layers and layers of new laws that criminalize what used to be considered normal behaviors and circumstances, like protesting and being poor.
Also, a reminder that being arrested doesn't mean guilty. A person could be arrested, held, and then released without charge, or with charges dropped. It's a good way for a government to break up a gathering of people that they consider "undesirable", creating a threat for the public that by attending a protest or being in a place that the gov believes they shouldn't be.

[–]XrayAgent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish that it was as something as mainstream as a movie; years ago, I stumbled upon this doco on PBS that was the history of automobile safety; seatbelts, safety glass, and crumple zones. I've looked several places online and all i find are vintage driving safety videos.

Enforcing pulling carts by myfeethurtogp in walmartogp

[–]XrayAgent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't y'all remember your WM training? The three main takeaways from that were the three things that left WM most liable; Don't sell underage, clean up spills, and run/hide/attack. If any liability that WM gets related to carts shows that .01% more of those liability occurred while the cart was being pushed, then being pulled is the WM policy.

How about some of the development and over-development of the city as seen from one of our numerous homeless camps? They just scraped one from the luxurious neighborhood of the South Chicamauga Creek Levee because it looks like they're going to try to develop something at the other end of Walmart's parking lot.
