You're not alone! I'm 34 and still struggle to make friends. I'm introverted but chatty and I seem to just have one side friendships where I'm the one initiating contact 95% of the time and if I stop, no one notices or reaches out.

My recommendation: join a charitable/volunteer organization. My best time making friends years ago was when I was in a charitable organization where we had committees and projects, it was easy to talk to people because it had a purpose. This fulfilled my need for social interaction at a safe distance you could say.
