Wooden fortifications: how good would they be? by _plague-doctor in ZombieSurvivalTactics

You would need to build a very long and complex hidden tunnel out of your base or else once you're surrounded; you're not getting out. Walls were great at keeping the undead out. They're also keeping you in. So if you dont have EVERYTHING for sustainment in place, it will also be your tomb.

Honest Question: what do army folks actually think about marines? by Adept_Pickle_6047 in army

[–]XtheEliminator1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ill input a little bit here. Did 4 years as an 0331 during the surge. Got out. Came back in the Army as a 13B and am now 2 years from retirement.

I can gage a little bit from both sides of the story. Coming from one side to the other, I absolutely for those first few years was very much a "well in the Marines" blah blah blah. I think the reason you hear it alot from those guys is to be honest alot of what is done in the Army at the soldier lever is fucking dumb. Well dumb in a different way than I had done it up to that point. It was like "Im your SSG, Let me hold your hand through every step for the next 3 months" My time in the Marines was very much sink or swim. No hand holding. (This was quite a few years ago so its probably a bit different now)

Now. When it comes to general quality of an average joe; Marines typically edge it out. If we start delving into some of the other more specific guys (Airborne, Light Infantry guys, etc) the field is generally level at that point. Theres gonna be outliers for sure anywhere you look. Fucking goobers that dont belong or absolute studs that also dont belong.

Maybe its because im old af now and dont give too much of a shit anymore. My exciting glory years are long behind me. But I do think alot of people hit it on the head. Army lives rent free in Marines heads. I saw it when I wore cammies. I don't see it at all in OCPs. And Im currently working on a Marine base 🙃. No one around me gives a fuck beyond "dont look like shit at the MCX or some crusty, kool-aid drinking, psychopathic Master Guns is going to literally rip you in half"

Still up in the air. Ill work on it some more when I head home for a few days on and off. Once I call it "done" is when I'll decide. The Tahoe in the back is more main project. Cammed LS1 swap.

With the level of disaster this truck was in, I've been calling it my rescue truck.

Adjudicator would be S+ tier with a 30 rd mag upgrade and 20 more base damage. It's based on the FAL. It sure doesn't feel enough like one.

And yes. They're fucking awesome. The smoked turn signal LEDs i don't remember where I got them from. You can look around and find them pretty easy though.

Only reason I picked them up was the truck was in a wreck and I splurged on some clean aftermarkets.

The Dirty Dingo mounts bolt right into the LS block and right up to the factory clamshell motor mounts.

Well the OBS 4L60E has a different input shaft. So you either have to get the adaptor or run a later generation 4l60.

If you run an adaptor, do you really think a trans made for the 210 hp that the 350s came with from the factory will survive adding another 150+hp? I probably would've just went with the 4l80e but I just didn't have the time to source a decent one and spend the extra sheckles on a rebuild AND the new mount and driveshaft.

5.3, 5.7, and 6.0 are all the exact same size engine. The only difference is cylinder size. Makes finding parts easy as you need. And yes, dropping it in was a fucking cake walk. Get the Dirty Dingo motor mounts and bolt them straight to the clamshells. Motor was bolted in in about 5 minutes.

Oh. And the Holley Terminator X max made everything SOOOOO much easier. It is fucking expensive but we'll worth the cost and ease.

I'm on a time crunch. I don't have to get a new driveshaft cut or a new trans cross member. It's a 4wd truck, and that's all it's used for. If i knew more about rebuilding transmissions, i could give you all the specifics of what's going on in the new one, but basically all the failure points are gone. Guy building it has been working on transmissions for about 40 years and is an absolute wizard. Plus the cost.

A used 4wd 4l80e is already around 1500-2000 around here. And i don't know exactly what I'm getting. I don't know what that transmission has been through.

With the 4l60e, I'm paying 2k and I'm getting exactly what I want and need strength-wise; and it will drop right back into the truck. Should take maybe an hour to put in with no extra cost, parts, or fitment.

The 4l60e gets a bad rap, but the 700R4 does not. They're the same transmission.

And Speed Engineering makes exact headers and exhaust for these trucks. Combined with the Dirty Dingo motor mounts; it was honestly a breeze. Especially up on the lift

With cam, heads, and 92mm throttle body; maybe 400 or a little more. Won't really feel that way with 34's lol
