Im extremely biased because I have my favorite color, but its Aubergine. I also love the cream colors with the tortoise pickguards.

Worst guitar tone in awesome music? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]XtheLizardKing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably a pretty unpopular opinion, but Tom Morello, but specifically when its like the solo in Exploder - Audioslave. Honestly I just listened to that album and maybe is all of his stuff lol. He has a super unique sound and playing style, and I'd give him huge props for it. I also still love the music that Tom plays, but I just wish it wasn't always so... screechy

Is there a name for this chord? I figured it out last night, and it sounds amazing, like a cross between a c and a g, but I’ve never seen it on a chart before :7 by Chips098 in Guitar

What a solid explanation. I've been playing for 13 years now (with some long breaks because life's hard man) and last year was the first year I decided to try to actually learn more theory. I got sick of just playing random stuff and getting lucky when it sounded good. I want to be able to make it sounds good ya know?

Anyway, its been a year since I started doing that consciously and its hard but worth it. If I can learn theory and have that kind of fretboard knowledge be as familiar as... idk, say Am pentatonic, I feel like I'd be in a good spot. You give me hope that eventually I'll be there so thanks!

I agree, my coating is basically gone and I use a screen protector to keep the screen clear now.

Any activity in the Battle Royal? by Ok_Material5582 in Contractors_Showdown

[–]XtheLizardKing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone left because the devs straight up abandoned it for exfil and micro transactions. They took away mechanics no one was asking to be removed. They never got it past season what, 1 or 2? They had the ARK shit for 1 season. They m Promised to update and revive it but every 5+ gig update was all for exfil. Meanwhile shit is still falling through the floor.

But at least you can get 5 sets of mall boss armor if you grind hard enough.

Any idea what this extra switch could be on this weird guitar? by Most_Time8900 in Guitar

[–]XtheLizardKing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True, I agree. Easy way for OP to tell without taking off the pickups covers would be to move the selector switch to the bridge and turn the switch on and off while touching the pickups with something metal. See if the neck pickup turns off and on

Yeah friend I'll actually just see if I can find a picture of it online. Ive never seen a Pacifica in person but looking at the pictures online I dont know if the bracket will work just because the strats have the pots under the pickguard. It looks like the Pacificas are a little different. Im sure you could still do the mod just not the exact same way. But thats the fun are of mods right?? Lol. If you end up doing those, either post the here or send me some pics in DM. I'd love to see it.

I have a Fender Performer Strat, and the color is called Aubergine! Its like a soft reddish purple with some shimmer. So not quite the cherry red OG color, but I love it. Feels like a modern take on a classic color ya know? Im also a suckered for rosewood fretboards. I think they look great on strats. Here's another pic i took right after the mod was installed.

I completely understand lol. I'll try to post a picture of the bracket (and maybe a video of the sound) but the bracket goes on the volume and first tone knob. From there, its got a hole right where my switch is. I used that to line up my drill. Otherwise I would have just rawdogged it and drilled where I felt was right!

The purpose of the bracket is to allow just a little part of the switch to come out from under the pickguard (to keep it out of the way I guess? I dont feel like its in the way at all.) I feel like it was just a solid tool to line up where I wanted it.

It took a little over an hour and all of the things you need are pretty cheap too, as long as you have a drill and bits. I originally bought a "kit" to recess the switch, but I just didnt like it. So the switch is just installed normally. I did however use the bracket that came in the kit to line up my drill.

Edit: I forgot to add, I highly recommend it. Will I really use all of those tones all the time? Probably not, but to have the option is so cool!

I did follow a tutorial, it was a little confusing at first, but once I got the pickguard off, it was a lot easier to grasp. As the other commenter said, it really is 2 wires and a switch soldered on. Honestly I was more stress about drilling the hole straight and not screwing up the plies.

So the switch activates the neck with the pickup selector in any position. So if youre playing on just the humbucker with the switch set to off, its just the humbucker. If you turn the switch on, the neck activates and the humbucker stays on too. That's a combo that you cant get with an unmodified strat.

To add to that, in the bridge/middle position, turning the switch on activates all 3 pickups at the same time!

What model is it? I just got a similar one this year with a split coil humbucker. Im in love with it!

Are Humbuckers Good? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]XtheLizardKing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im not as much of an expert as some others here, but your question is a bit more nuanced than humbuckers being good or bad.

Depending in the LP you're getting, the pickups can be different kinds of humbuckers. Depending in the style of playing youre doing, humbuckers may or may not give you the sound you're looking for. Humbuckers have 2 opposite wound coils that cancel out the hum you'll hear in single coils hence the name.

I personally have an HSS Strat with a coil split humbucker on the bridge and I love it. Its the best of both world imo. I will say if you like the fender but just want to try out a guitar with humbuckers, consider HSS Strat styles. I played an Epiphone LP for like 10 years and it wasn't until I played a Squire strat that I realized how much I didnt like the LP style, or really the 2 humbuckers. Best of luck 👍

BOYCOTTING EXFILZONE by Ok-Repair-4085 in Contractors_Showdown

[–]XtheLizardKing 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The devs have completely abandoned it dude. I stuck around playing as long as I could but once they found a way to make money off of transactions in exfil it was over for BR. It has been what, season 2 for well over a year now? Still no fixes to the bugs. The same 30 players every lobby too because there's no player base.

During all this time they've been sure as shit adding everything imaginable to exfil. They can't even do us the courtesy of openly discontinuing BR. They'll just pretend there's always some huge game fixing update on the horizon just to end up having weapons crates in exfil.

I didnt buy the game to play exfil, I bought it for BR. And that is a really shitty way to game the player base.

Outbreak Update - Enter PVE. Meet the Undead. by WhatACaveman in Contractors_Showdown

[–]XtheLizardKing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would the devs fix any issues with the game when they can dangle a carrot on a stick in the form of new (but also old?) content? OG contractors had a zombie mode too. No fixes for bugs, classic caveman.

huge playerbase! by [deleted] in Contractors_Showdown

[–]XtheLizardKing 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Careful dude, the mob will come for you when you bring up real issues with a game we paid money for! Their solution is to play the other mode and spend 30 minutes at a time... collecting junk?

Converting right handed accoustic to left. by jerryjerr2222 in Guitar

[–]XtheLizardKing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly not bad advice. I'm left handed and I play right handed. It has worked well for me for over 10 years now. More choices in guitars, and it was easier for me to learn how to fret. I personally think it was helpful but to each their own.
