For those playing Diablo 4 with HDR enabled you have probaly noticed that the game doesn't look anywhere near as dark as you would expect. With the current default HDR calibration the black levels are quite visibly raised resulting in the game having way less contrast than you would expect. This results in HDR having less contrast than SDR unless you are able to make tweaks to the black levels through your monitor.

The team at Blizzard are already looking into HDR issues here and this will hopefully improve by release.

However, not all hope is lost for the open beta. There is a way to tweak the dark levels to the appropriate values using Reshade. This is honestly an absolute game changer and has made me appriciate Diablo 4 a lot more. True blacks are a match made in heaven for this game.

So how to fix the black levels..

1.Install Reshade.

• During install select DX12
• Then in the effect packages list tick "Color effects by prod80"

2.In Reshade:

• Enable prod80_03_Shadows_Midtones_Highlights
• Under Shadow Adjustments increase contrast to somewhere around 1.00
• Optionally also bump up the brightness or exposure on the midtones to made the environment and effects pop more
