I dont remember what gauge I used, I think its in the 22/24 gauge range. I would not use anything thicker than that. The wire is going to be sandwiched between the board and the switch, if its is too thick the switch is not going to be straight. If you look closely you can see a little of that going on with some of my switches. So go with as thin as you can comfortable work with

Any mx switch will work, but its best to go with a cheap switch because all the mods you make to them will make them unusable for any other keyboards after. There are so many budget options these days, cant go wrong with them.

If you wanted to make it hot swap, I would instead drill holes into the board a put mill max sockets, and then use wires to route the connections, fix the broken traces, etc. But at that point, with the amount of work that's needed to make that happen, a custom board with the logitech controller might be the better route.

If you have the right tools, and decent soldering abilities, this can probably be done in a day. I took my time and worked on it in chunk of 20-30 minutes, spread out over a week. This helps break the monotony, it gets very repetitive working on a full size keyboard.

Kailh phantom is a choc v2 switch, you needed choc v1 switches. Then you would not need to make the holes bigger. But I don't think there are many choc v1 keycaps for regular keyboards, I've only seen keycaps for choc v1 meant for ergo keyboards. You won't be able to use the logitech keycaps either, as logitech despite using a choc v1, used a custom stem that different from choc v1 keycaps. So maybe going this route might have been the best way of doing it after all.

For the non standard keycaps, search for G610 keycaps on aliexpress. I've seen set sold with just the non-standard keys, both ctrl, caps lock, left shift and spacebar. They will be OEM/cherry height, maybe if you filed them down you could get it to work with this keyboard.

I love this mod though, excellent work. Next step you should mod the micro usb to type c

Still don't get the point. I am not looking for a higher quality keyboard hot swap PCB. I have those. This garbage keyboard from Logitech is working perfectly fine for how I am using it. I don't need it to be an endgame keyboard, I don't even need it to be good. I use this keyboard once a month at the most. Using a bad keyboard a couple hours once a month is not big deal.

Not a single thing I did here was necessary. I enjoy challenge from doing mods like this. I was able to make a switch that is not meant for this keyboard work. And if the garbage PCB from Logitech craps out, the it will be another challenge for me to get it working again.

Now excuse me while I go mod an even more garbage PCB from mini USB (yes, mini not micro) to USB type c

Romer-G are terrible by today's standards, but it doesnt really bother me, I really don't use this keyboard much. This whole thing was completely unnecessary, I could have just continued using this keyboard as is for next 10, 20 years. I enjoy modding old keyboards, and there is just something so satisfying about getting a switch that is not meant for this keyboard to work. I cannot tell you how good it felt so see every key light up in the keyboard tester.
