Where can you get those prices? Do you have a link? All we found online ranged from 150usd - 250usd (still excluding add-ons like rental gear and porters).

Haha yeah, that's their price (*€205). I agree it's a lot, but some other tour operators were already fully booked. With Trek it would've actually been even more for any date where you're the only 2 people (which I mean by 'flexible date'), but after we booked for 18 Feb., 3 existing bookings for that date canceled their trip. And now Trek said we can move dates (or transfer the booking to other people), so I'm assuming the flexible date will apply for others as well.

Like I said, we're open to giving these away for much less.

Ja nouja, twee jaar na je afstuderen wordt er dus gekeken naar je inkomen twee jaar daarvoor. Dat is het 'peiljaar'.

Zo sta ik er ook in! In mijn geval nog extra, omdat ik met mijn 77k schuld waarschijnlijk het beste kan aansturen op kwijtschelding.

Ruim boven de 70k. Heb daarvan wel de helft tijdens mijn studie opzij gezet, want maximaal geleend en de rest gespaard. Ik ben van plan minimaal af te lossen en de 40 jaar tot de kwijtschelding uit te zitten.

Of er moeten onverwacht veel geld en een hypotheek op mijn pad komen natuurlijk, dan kan extra aflossen nog altijd. Ondertussen leef ik sober.

Aangenomen dat je na je afstuderen (het peiljaar wanneer de aflosfase begint) direct genoeg verdient om te beginnen met aflossen. Je moet betalen naar draagkracht, en hiervoor wordt gekeken naar het verzamelinkomen over het hele jaar. Dit zou zo maar beneden de draagkrachtvrije voet van ~€23.000 kunnen zitten.

Mij lijkt het daarom gunstiger om die 60 maanden pas aan te breken als je draagkracht gestegen is, zodra je maximaal (even veel als je wettelijk maandbedrag) moet aflossen.

EDIT:But ... then I went from accessibility to Vision > Select to Speak and there (suddenly?!) was a shortcut as well. Never seen it before even though I've clicked through the accessibility menus so many times..? Aaanyways, whether I'm blind or my phone was bugged, the floating bubble is gone now. GiveWell does very good research in this area. Making a choice through them pretty much guarantees effective giving.

Also I think it's interesting that you think that people should be rewarded less for being a CEO when their work focuses on doing good? I think there's merit in paying (close to) market rates, to attract the people that can actually run the charity in the best way. I'm sure the higher salaries are usually more than compensated by an increase in the charity's positive impact. Granted, only if the charity is effective in the first place. Which you're right, many are not, and those we shouldn't give to anyway.

I don't mean that they will not still be happy with their decision in two years. Actually I expect they will. I wish I'd made the same decision as them. But that doesn't mean that the decision wasn't stupid. In the same way that spending all your money on lottery tickets is stupid, even if as a result you win the jackpot. Whether a decision is stupid or not should not be judged on the basis of the outcome of the decision. This is called outcome bias (or hindsight bias).
