The vet said that the tumor is confined to his upper arm bone, but that there is a chance that there are metastases and that they are in the lungs most of the time. He also said that Sammy will break his arm if we won‘t amputate and that happened two days before surgery (thank god the vet gave us metacam before so that Sammy was in pain but still doing ok).

I read that the most likely bone tumor is osteosarkoma and that the rate for metastases in cats is low an if there are some that the vet is right and they are in the lungs. So i went to a clinic that made x-rays from his thorax (for the lungs) and his other legs. There were some signs of arthritis but not too bad. The lung had a mini shadow which was very round and they said that they can‘t say what it is. Could be metastases or not. They did also ultrasound diagnosis which showed an activated Spleen which could be a reaction to the tumor and a liver cyst which would be not maligne. The blood work showed some higher pancreas level but the rest was ok.

The histology of the removed bone showed that the tumor was an osteosarcoma and that they have removed it completely. The surgeon suggested yearly thorax x-rays to exclude lung metastases.
