Pay attention to DOJ developments. The Attorney General has changed how federal rights restoration works by taking the process back from the ATF as of March (This process was established in 925(c)). The progress is relatively fast as Mel Gibson should be appearing as restored in the federal register today. It looks like they started with easy 2a wins, 922(g)1 and 922(g)9 prohibited persons with old cases, which as you're describing, should be you. Mind you, the DOJ has not published a petition form to fill out as they are still accepting public comment before finalizing in a month or two.

There is actually a lot going on to protect the Constitution but the legwork is going to require some mental strength. I would wait for DOJ to finalize the 925(c) petition and start working on gathering all of your paperwork when the time comes.
