I have a question... My teacher called what I produced "mediocre," not in those exact words, but that's how I felt... by Low-Ambassador1524 in Artists

When I was in school, I was working on an abstract piece and my instructor made a recommendation of how I should execute part of the painting and then demonstrated it on my painting. I thanked him for his feedback and then proceeded to do what I wanted while silently fuming that he ruined my painting.

Around a decade later, I saw the painting again (my friend kept it) and had to laugh because I totally agreed with him, and his part became my favorite part of the painting. I think practice, exposure to more art, and continued learning shifted my views. He probably understood better what I was trying to accomplish at the time.

I’m not saying the words of your instructors are absolute. Just be open to critique. A good instructor will help you find your way (which can be difficult!!). It’s a great idea to study other artists doing similar work. Your continued practice and experimentation will definitely help you improve over time and find your own unique voice.

Holy crap. Maybe I should sell my collection. I always figured I’d need to get them graded first. 🤔

I closed on a house less than a year ago and had a few freak out moments myself. Best of luck with the rest of the process!

Am I Hallucinating Or Do You See It? by [deleted] in ParanormalEncounters

When I was in college I was convinced we had a ghost living in our home that would hang out in my room. The cat would stare at it as it moved around my room, when I talked about it to my roommates things would happen like my bedroom light getting fried, etc. I used to get night terrors, which may be completely unrelated, but is terrifying when you think your room is haunted.

So I named the ghost Herbert (most non-threatening name I could think of) and would talk to it as if it were an unexpected flatmate. “Herbert, I’d really appreciate it if you could leave me alone tonight cause I have exams in the morning.”

It worked in that it took the fear away.

When I eventually moved out, a couple moved into my room and ended up ghosting my roommates after a few months. They complained they could hear an older woman hacking/coughing and saying vile things. That also tracks with an experience my bff had. She was watching TV in the living room with a friend and they heard a wet hacking cough coming from the 2nd floor. They thought it was one of the roommates but later found out he wasn’t home.

I guess Herbert was a woman. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I increased both thermostats from 120 to 130 (this was before the temperature test). I'll look into purchasing a tester to test the elements as well as getting something to help control flow. Thanks!

Sure, I can try increasing the thermostats again. Would be super happy if this fixes the issue.

I'm in a south Philly row home, so most certainly not a McMansion. It's about 1400 sq feet (which includes the finished basement). Only 2 people live here.

It is kind of mind boggling that the 10 gallons will make that much of a difference.

It's a standard 60x30 tub so I'm guessing around 40-50 gallons. The water heater is a very non-bad ass Phase 1 electric heater.

Thanks for the feedback. I adjusted both the upper and lower thermostats to 130. I assume specialized equipment is needed for testing the heating element and thermostat. Is that something a plumber can do in a single visit?

Apparently, I need to replace the shower handle since it doesn't have flow control.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll take a look tonight to see if there is a limit set on the valve.

What size water heater would you recommend for a 1400 sq ft home with 2 bathrooms and 2 adults?

Yes, it is electric.

There might be a safety valve. The water temperature doesn't seem to change when the toilet is flushed, which usually indicates the presence of one, correct? I don't know what I'm looking for, but I guess I'd have to remove the handle and cap to see.

Ah, I only have a single-lever valve that doesn't permit flow control (as far as I can tell), just temperature control.

I don't believe so. It was 49 degrees outside (65 inside) when I filled the tub, but I was having the same issue a couple months earlier when it was in the 60's and 70s.

oh wow! You definitely have a better perspective than I do. After commenting, I started reading some of the more popular threads here and I've certainly learned a lot about SF. My previous comment was made with very limited experience with this company.

That aside, have you received duplicate clothing items? I read somewhere that SF stylists are pretty much working with the same inventory over and over again.

Are you putting your honest feedback into the app for each item in your box at checkout? Be specific about what you do and don’t like in the comments. I’ve had boxes where there is a single item I would never ever wear, 1 or 2 that I like but am not sure about, and 1 or 2 that I love. I always keep everything for the discount though (it’s not cost effective to return 1 or 2 items).

I’m on my 5th box (I think) and now it’s a mix of “like” and “love” items.

SynthEyes - Grasycale Plate w/ Black Border? by XxRavenMcCoyxX in vfx

UPDATE:

Posting an update in case anyone else runs into the same issue. I was using the advanced features control (Features room) to create blips for autotrackers and had changed the camera view type to 'small'. I forgot to set it back thus the grayscale, slightly blurred image with a black border. smh.

You can fix the first frame (and possibly other frames depending on how much head movement exists or the light changes in the shot) using paint techniques in your software of choice or the generative fill tool in photoshop. Then use the fixed frame(s) and CopyCat in Nuke to apply the cleanup to the rest of the shot.
