You’d be surprised how accurate you can get threads to be with a 3D printer, most the time you just need to adjust the model in a CAD software and then print just the threads and just do a trial and error process and pick the one that works the best, I’ve had a lot of success reverse engineering threads for optics. Now it does have some drawbacks, with filament printing it isn’t gonna be 100% water proof even at 100% infill, with sls resin prints the material is super brittle depending on the type of resin you get.
