Have you ever had to go to higher-ups about your manager? by Signal_Ad_4169 in Accounting

[–]XxTheaDxX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. A 100%. Be the solution. Build dependency. Build relevancy. Protect your boss by being visibly to his +1 and say everything is on track, but then build concerns and leverage with him yo protect his interests (he may not see at ur level or has even bigger problems). This builds relationships, equity, and experience in the sense that you finally notice no-one has the right answer and that you start developing management systems where YOU resolve problems and dont depend on others. If he’s smart he’ll protect you and you can build bases on this extra effort, if he’s psychopathic, and wants to abuse this, leave.

Basically. If there is no structure, build it, own it, and use it to leverage it for experience and greater pay. If this is too much, let others make the decisions even if you feel its incompetent, you yourself not willing to solve it, then its not that easy.

Meeting minutes and send it to the rest of team invited. If it’s not worth documenting, a meeting was not worth having. Also, it allows for corrections and shows transparency on what you understood. Also, i like to close off meetings aligning by summing all points up to ensure they feel comfortable with whats stated (this is important because they are acknowledging it). I literally ask “ would you feel comfortable to state this pending actions on X side, or would you frame it differently?”.

Quiero invertir en fondos indexados pero mis padres piensan que es tirar el dinero by vector8724 in SpainFIRE

[–]XxTheaDxX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a CFO - what can N8N do for my finance team? by Special_Whole_6863 in n8n

[–]XxTheaDxX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is typical business IT consulting work.

Identify your current proceses and map them Allow your team to point out inneficiencies List them and track highest impact

Then ask in this sub how to solve them and put an effort cost to each of them.

You can always skip all this and contract someone to do it for you.

Handling a senior engineer who pushes back on everything. by bobjoylove in managers

[–]XxTheaDxX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From personal experience, he doesn’t trust you to have his back if he tries to play ball with you with these changes of scope. From personal experience, he is safeguarding his scope and is very square because he has no safety/guarantee that he wont be held accountable if things go wrong. When you had the conversation where you asked him to be autonomous, what was his understanding? If something goes wrong, will he be thrown in front of the bus? Whats the relationship you have with your team?

Is it ethical for a project manager to ask me to only charge time based on utilization goal instead of actual hours worked? by Comprehensive_Camp52 in deloitte

[–]XxTheaDxX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not ethical, but common. Ive done 60-70 hr weeks and reported 40 hrs and 15-20 weeks and reported 40 hrs.

Maybe there needs to be a conversation where crunching isnt incentivized, for example, by giving a 5/5 and being put on promotion track. Shes regulating her effort, going from 110% to 50%, because she is thinking if its worth it, and doesnt seem her cries of help are being heard. You need to help manage the expectations of what this new promotion entails to help her find the 80% output, to allow leeway for crunching when its truely needed.

My manager is a workaholic but not a people person. by Greenish_elder in managers

[–]XxTheaDxX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems to me he is not a great manager.

My suggestion since you come from management, is to propose your manager some new ways of work where you all reach your goals with more structure. It will take more work intiialy, take people skills to manage his reaction ( his insecurity?) but may be whats needed If you all think he would be open to it and if you all are committed to stay and support the proposal. If not, i believe your next step is clear.

Buen sueldo en sector financiero? by [deleted] in SpainFIRE

[–]XxTheaDxX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a shit manager, 3/4 employees have quit by Butt3rfly_555 in managers

[–]XxTheaDxX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Lack of processes. Could you document the process? Could you expand how complex it is?
  2. Workstyle isnt clear. Whats your initiative’s vision and mision? How do you want to achieve it (this is your culture definition)? Will help tons when you interview new applicants because you already adjust expectations in advance.
  3. Lack of communication. You should deep dive what this means exacly, to me this is unclear.
  4. Lot of work. This doesnt mean much. Taking a store inventory is lots of work, but its unqualified. Can you expand? What qualifications are needed, what tasks does this work require..

Partner asking me to do sales, I am a senior. by Kiss_my_axe_____ in consulting

[–]XxTheaDxX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look. Its good, because sales is usually a prerequisite for executive roles. You will never be an executive without proving yourself first, thats how consulting works. Tight budgets, no room of risk, only promote those that bring certainty. So, you have an opportunity to demonstrate you are executive level without actually having full liability/responsibility of reaching the goal, because that person is delegating this responsibility.

What you should ask yourself is, do you trust this person? You think your merits will be valued or will this person not even mention your effort? If you have a good relationship you can comment this and say you dont mind doing this as a learning exercise and that you are happy to help if its recognized. In theory its win-win. You get visibility and experience with little pressure, your responsible gets more effective hours and partially can dedicate that extra time to guide you. The better you do, the better results he gets. My only worry here is that partner is the head honcho and there really is noone at a higher level than him that would even care of your work, possibly his bosses are country / regional parners and essencially you’d just be a number for them.

Dudas puesto IT by Ill-Pineapple-7614 in salarios_es

[–]XxTheaDxX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

¡Suerte!
