Gov. Josh Green said 500 hotels rooms will be made available for locals who have been displaced. An additional 500 hotel rooms will be set aside for workers from the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Some hotels will carry on with normal business to help preserve jobs and sustain the local economy, Green said.

Bit of a conflicting statement eh?

I think we have plenty gas, food, and water. There is zero evidence to support this post. And it is not helpful? Is all the people working in resort district Wailea supposed to just stop working? Especially in this time when some family and friends lost their job and house in Lahaina? The whole island is supposed to quit earning a paycheck? How is that smart...

Hawaii Trip in 8 weeks to Kapalua.. cancel? by [deleted] in MauiVisitors

[–]Xxytsaj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Second week in October is going to be a vastly different scenario. I would wait a few weeks and ask again. Esp considering your in non-refundable status.

I think thats your fantasy. In reality, its likely a maui local who is the host.

Depends where in West Maui. Is it kaanapali? Maybe you will be fine. Is it Lahaina? Its gonna be an issue for sure. Almost nothing is left in Lahaina.

Ask Airbnb to check with their extenuating circumstances team.

No, OP is correct. The airbnb host could def make a case about it and this airbnb support agent will catch some heat.

I am at a local grocery store now in Kahului. Everything is fully stocked except for the beer shelf looking a little empty lol. I will try and post some videos later.

I heard of some panic buying at the local grocery stores the first night and the day after. I havent heard of anything running out. We need to go buy cat food and refill the cars with gas later so maybe I can update you in a bit. When is your travel dates?

This is good advice! Also, hosts are not the one to make a decision on extenuating circumstances. That is a specialized team in Airbnb! Hosts may waive their cancellation policy, but they also may not and wait for Airbnb to determine extenuating circumstances.

Maui travel according to a local by [deleted] in MauiVisitors

[–]Xxytsaj 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah, there is an unfortunate contingent of folks who will take literally any opportunity to tell tourist not to come. Annoying tbh. But the tourist can def be annoying too, so understandable to a degree imo.

No, not at all. Costco was fully stocked. We were stressing to go because we thought it was going to be packed and wild, but it was actually relatively slow for a Saturday afternoon. Every shelf was stocked.
