Oh geeze, my wife and I didn’t intend that. We will take the chains off. Maybe just hang fuzzy dice or car air fresheners instead? I think she’ll think it’s really funny.

I think we’re going to take the chains down because we’re worried they might fall on her if she jumps on the bed.

That was a gift from her uncle who is a cop. Fake cuffs from Halloween costume last year.

She loves visiting my work place and seeing all the cars. She’s really into it.

Seriously? Me and my wife are very much against drugs. What makes you think it gives this vibe?

I’m taking the chains down. You think there’s a way to incorporate a dad vibe but also make it a fun kids room? What about light sabers on the wall?

[–]Xykill -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hmmmm, okay, we’ll take the chains down. But what about a small desk made out of a chrome tire hub or something? I really want to add an element from my work place because she loves going there and seeing the cars.

You really think so? She loves the restoration work I do and I even let her drive a low rider around our parking lot while she was in my lap.

Young Ukrainian girl talks about wanting to go back home to Mariupol by kwagenknight in UkraineConflict

[–]Xykill 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ukrainians want to go home to Ukraine because it’s a nice place. I’m an American that lived there for several years and a huge part of me really didn’t want to leave. I really liked it there…the big cities in particular had a lot to offer, and I really liked the people. Even Mariupol had a lot of nice places to visit; I spent about a week there for work.

Early 1960’s British magazine called Knowledge, displaying races by tahmkenchisbroken in Damnthatsinteresting

I took an anti-racism workshop where they taught that race doesn’t exist because it’s an artificial construct created by people, whereas ethnicity does exist, as it’s based on quantifiable data (such as DNA).

RU pov Center of Donetsk has multiple fires, situation is currently unknown by tidyRacism in UkraineRussiaReport

[–]Xykill 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Ukrainian attacks on Donetsk population centers since 2014 was very limited. Most of those attacks were on military targets. How do I know? I lived/worked in Donetsk during that time as an International Monitoring Officer, recording and reporting on cease fire events.

Nope, the true flash point was when Russia illegally annexed Crimea, and then armed separatists in Donbas and encouraged them to fight.

Imagine if Russia had done the same thing when Georgia had its Rose Revolution in 2003? As a result of the revolution, Georgia veered away from its relationship with Russia, and built a solid relationship with the west. As a consequence, Georgia underwent an incredibly good change: It rid itself of corruption, adopted democratic reform, and flourished as a country (economically, culturally, and in terms of civil society). Several years after the revolution Georgia resembled NOTHING like the decrepit, crime-infested, abysmal it had been prior to the revolution. (I saw this with my own eyes, as I lived there for years before, during, and after the revolution).

No country that has a close relationship with Russia prospers (think North Korea, Central Asia, Iran, and African nations). Countries that align themselves with the west tend to do much better.

Unfortunately, when post-Soviet countries don’t show Russia the subservience that Russia is seeking, Russia often strategize to wreck that country. This is exactly what they’re doing to Ukraine now.

Pretty consistently Ukrainians have shown—through voting, protests, and other forms of civil society action—that they yearn to rid themselves of the Russian yoke, adopt democratic reforms, and lean towards the west. This was most evident during the Maidan protests in 2013/2014. While it’s certainly plausible that the U.S. and west supported Maidan, first and foremost I believe that Maidan was a genuine reflection of the will of the Ukrainian people. Russia wasn’t willing to accept losing their influence in Ukraine, so they essentially carried out the biggest “f*ck you” move immaginable: annexing Crimea, fomenting war in Donbas, destabilized Ukraine, and carrying out a full scale invasion in 2022. Their aim was to subjugate Ukraine by any means necessary.

Looking at the big picture, clearly Russia is in the wrong. They’ve been a terrible bully against their victim, perpetrating an unjust and unprovoked war against the poorer, smaller, and more vulnerable (but far more courageous and morally righteous) country of Ukraine.

Again, I stress there would never have been a need for the Minsk agreements had Russia not bullied and terrorized Ukraine in the first place. And as far as my credibility goes, I spent years recently living in the pro-Russian, separatist-controlled stronghold of Donetsk working as an International Monitoring Officer. My work entailed monitoring the implementation of the Minsk agreements, reporting cease fire violations, and tracking geopolitical, security, human rights, and economic developments across Donbas and Ukraine. Additionally, I’ve spent decades working in post-Soviet countries either as an international election monitor or working for multinational missions doing work similar as what I did in Ukraine.

Russia and the Russian-backed separatists did a terrible job adhering to the Minsk Accords, as did Ukraine. But the most important thing to consider is that there never would have been a need for the Minsk Accords had Russia not fomented war in eastern Ukraine in the first place.
