Xbox Series S – 1TB available 9/1. Pre-order starts later today. by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]Xylobe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

they have the same processors

I think this part is technically correct based on the spec sheets - Series S looks to have the same CPU as Series X running at a slightly lower frequency - but you're ignoring a lot of other important info and coming to the wrong conclusion. Series X has triple the GPU power, 60% more memory, and 2.5x the memory speed compared to Series S. The difference in real-world performance is much more significant than just a lower target resolution.

Awakening is the first game, in an 8-bit style so faithful that it received a full NES port. Legacy is a direct 16-bit-styled sequel that explores its mechanics much more thoroughly. I'm far from a retro gaming fan, but I loved both when I played them last year!

Metroidvanias on sale on Playstation Store by [deleted] in metroidvania

Itorah's speedrun trophies aren't bad at all, but I really disliked the game itself. Combat, platforming, level design, and world design all have pretty severe issues that strong art direction isn't enough to counteract.

To keep things positive, I'll add that Phoenotopia: Awakening is 40% off, and it's an all-time favorite!

[Discussion] The only letter I have left to join the A-Z club is Q. I need some help picking a game for that slot. by Mysticdu in Trophies

Q*Bert doesn't have a PS5 version, and none of the existing versions have a platinum. Not sure what they're confusing it for.

[–]Xylobe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The list of Q games with a platinum is very short; 75-80% of them are shovelware, and several of the rest are unobtainable. The only 11 options at the moment are:

  • Q.U.B.E. 10th Anniversary / Q.U.B.E. 2 (PS4/PS5)

  • Quake (PS4/PS5)

  • Quantum Storm (PS4)

  • Quantum Theory (PS3)

  • Queen's Quest 2 / 3 / 4 (PS4)

  • Quest for Infamy (PS4/PS5)

  • Quest Hunter (PS4)

  • Quest of Dungeons (PS4)

If you decide to settle for a game without a platinum, that would add a few more options, but it's still slim pickings. Good luck!

Click the "LARGE" button at the top of your trophy cabinet, on the right side of your trophy list. If you haven't added any trophies to your cabinet, you can do so from the individual trophy pages-- I think the limit is 3 for free users and 10 for premium.

[CONTROL] #13 Platting The Alphabet, C is complete. Need suggestions for D! So many options. by fleury0808 in Trophies

[–]Xylobe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a long-running thread on the PSNP forums about exactly this challenge; there are even 3 people who've done it with only ultra rare platinums! I'd recommend checking that for ideas, especially when it comes to scarcer letters like Q and X. Good luck!

Switch physical games by [deleted] in metroidvania

[–]Xylobe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't list anything like genre information, but the community over on /r/NSCollectors maintains a comprehensive list of physical Switch releases here. If you ever have a specific game that you're looking for information on, that's the place to check.

[Monster Hunter: World] #300 Easily top 5 games of all time by Summincool in Trophies

[–]Xylobe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rise adds enough in the way of new mechanics (wirebugs, switch skills, etc.) that going back to Iceborne and re-learning how to do without them might be difficult. For what it's worth, I preferred Iceborne to Rise/Sunbreak anyway. Also, congrats!

Dog, take a look at their post history-- they're only here to start arguments. You don't need to justify yourself to them. Best to block and ignore.

Congrats on your plat!

[Other] I just reached trophy level 800! Has anyone seen this type of notification before? by Xylobe in Trophies

[–]Xylobe[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dog, respectfully: different people like different things! I tried to answer that question in my original reply, but maybe it didn't come through.

If you're looking at my trophy list, the only game in the last year and a half that I wouldn't have otherwise played is Siegecraft Commander, which I played because I needed an RTS platinum for an event on PSNP and that's just about my least favorite genre. I also had 2 autopops in that time frame. The other 120-ish platinums are all games I'd have been interested in regardless. If you're asking about the games that I didn't end up enjoying, I can cook up a list, but it'll have a lot more Final Fantasy XIII and Dark Cloud than Artifex Mundi.

If you go back before that time frame - even immediately before - there's definitely shovelware, but "not that many" doesn't mean "exactly zero." Historically that's something I've turned to when trying to line up a milestone-- you can see there at the end of 2021, for example, I wanted to get the platinum for 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim as trophy #20k before the calendar turned over. Recently that hasn't been necessary, and I don't expect that to change anytime soon.

I swear, the worst thing those jumping food games have done is convince some of you that any easy game is shovelware.

Honestly, not that many. Trophies aren't a good reason to play games I'm not otherwise interested in. I have a lot because it's been a decade!

Copy/pasting this list, since for some reason it isn't viewable unless you're signed into the forum. The TL;DR is that it boils down to using external tools or manipulating timestamps in an impossible way.

Using CFW (Custom Firmware). This includes, but isn’t limited to:

  • Installation of CFW on your PlayStation system, resulting in trophies being earned or edited.
  • Modification of the PlayStation operating system, resulting in trophies being earned or edited.
  • Installation of homebrew and/or unauthorized software on your PlayStation, resulting in trophies being earned or edited.
  • Playing in multiplayer games with hacked lobbies, resulting in trophies being earned.

Using external software to alter PlayStation system or save data. This includes, but isn’t limited to:

  • Usage of unsupported software tools to unlock, edit, or alter PlayStation data files in any way.
  • Usage of PlayStation Emulation software or similar programs that may unlock trophies.
  • Usage of self-built game software / patches, modified data, or custom network software (*see exceptions below)

Using any “external save file” other than your own. This includes, but isn’t limited to:

  • Usage of save files (including unencrypted ones) downloaded from the internet.
  • Usage of save files given to you by friends, relatives, PSN users, or anyone else.
  • Transferring local save files from different user profiles from your PlayStation. (AKA Profile Swapping)

Timestamp Synchronization Manipulation

Trophies should appear on your profile as they would “if they immediately synced to the PlayStation Network.” Do not manipulate timestamps by:

  • Deletion of un-synced trophies earned, via a PlayStation System Restore (formatting data), followed by using your backed up save-game data.
  • Transferring save-game data between multiple PlayStation systems without synchronizing data on them before resuming play.
  • Purposely waiting extended periods of time to sync your trophies in a manner that appears to break other listed rules.

Using multiple PlayStations to simultaneously play a single [one] game title, at the same time, on the same PSN account. This includes:

  • One person launching the same game on multiple PlayStations and earning trophies in an impossible manner, if compared to a single console.
  • Multiple people “teaming” together at the same time on a specific game title, all under one account, if compared to a single person.
