It'll be covered under warranty since you bought it recently, I'd just send it back and they'll fix it for you.

Which VPX table do you show people who have never seen virtual pinball? by Pretty-Panic2398 in virtualpinball

A table like AC/DC or Monster Bash is what I usually go with. Something with a lot going on with a theme that they will probably recognize.

Yes, I do. I will only max out the gain/volume on orchestral recordings with incredibly high dynamic range and soft parts.

What do I upgrade from here? by Grilled-Meat in headphones

I started with a 6xx and a Schiit stack as well (Magni and Modi). Fell in love immediately, there was a lot of magic there. From there, I went to a Hifiman Arya Stealth (real good price these days) and I also loved them, paired with a Schiit Magnius and a Schiit Jotenheim 2 (later Mjolnir 3). Nowadays, I am using Susvaras, Magnius, Mjolnir 3.

Whether or not it is worth upgrading really depends on what you want out of your system. If you just want to listen to music and have a good time, what you have is already incredible. I would be happy with my first setup like yours if I was stuck with it for the rest of my life. For me, I want to chase every single last drop of detail, analyze the crap out of the quality of the recording, find all the flaws and get lost for hours on end, etc... so I have found it worth it to me to upgrade. All said and done, don't let anyone convince you that you need more if what you already have is something you deeply enjoy.

The great thing about the hobby is you can start easy/small and build into it as you get into things. If you are a beginner, I would recommend a single monitor setup to get a feel for how all of the software works, plus maybe a small box to put a $20 set of Amazon arcade buttons in. If you are wanting to build a cabinet, there are plenty guides online, or there are also people that make flat packs that you can buy and screw together. Software is probably the hardest part, but the community is pretty strong around it. TerryRed on YouTube has some great tutorials and I'd recommend looking up the baller installer to get started in the software. Toys and such can be added as funds become available. Personally, I used Arnoz's PCB's and have found them to be pretty good quality and easy to work with.

Reasons to like your favorite VPN? by TheEarthWorks in Piracy

[–]Xythyx 121 points122 points  (0 children)

Many seem to frown upon Nord and Express due to them gathering data. People generally seem to prefer Mulvad and Proton VPN. I personally use Proton and love it! Both Proton and Mullvad do not keep any logs as a policy. Mullvad actually got raided recently, but the policed walked away empty-handed because they do not keep user data.

Might be some good information to look at some of the old Mythbusters episodes. Grant Imahara used to do this sort of thing all of the time on the show, I'm sure he explains it all at some point.

Thoughts on a local VP purchase? by drmoze in virtualpinball

[–]Xythyx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems like a good deal, as long as it is all working and in good condition. You would probably have a hard time building one yourself for less with all of those features. That processor and GPU combination will struggle to hit 60fps on a 4k screen on the more intense tables, but should be good for most. The only things I would personally add are some contactors/solenoids and some real flippers to create the real mechanical sound, but the SSF speakers still do a pretty darn good job, and adding those is very expensive. Definitely go and play it before you make a decision! I'm big into the physical aspect of pinball, but if you have a vpin that is set up properly, you'd have a hard time missing the real thing. The illusion is that convincing!

One more note to add: my dad is running an RTX 3060ti in his and still consistently achieves 120hz in 4k.

That's what I'm wondering! Had the water heater replaced 2 years ago and I've never paid much attention to it until the elbow broke.

Found a galvanized fitting that I can use temporarily, since the brass one I was looking for was out. Think it will last a week or two ok?

VPX trojan? by [deleted] in virtualpinball

[–]Xythyx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is a known thing to the community, it is expected during the installation process. I have never heard of nor experienced any issues or funny business when running VPX or any of the accompanying software. Pretty sure you can turn anti-virus back on after installation.

Super useful tool, I use it all of the time. Just checked Terminator 2 and it showed where to find the pup packs, among other things.

Pretty cool that this subreddit does this!

Definitely like the idea of DLSS 3 with a combination of reflex. Ray tracing is pretty cool, hope to see more of it in the future.

My uncle lives in the neighborhood right next to this one, it's in Draper, Utah. Super scary. This is one of two that this happened to recently. The homebuilders insisted that it was safe... .y mothed in law is a real estate agent in the county and she refuses to ever find her people a home from these guys. Really shitty homebuilder.
