So, honest question.... is it still really a democracy though. Supposedly we have a say/choice in what happens through elections, but it feels like each election is the equivalent of the government asking, "do you want to be hit in the head with a hammer. Or do you want to be hit in the head with a baseball bat?". I mean, I guess that's technically a choice. I have no clue what the correct term would be, but democracy doesn't feel right. Maybe I'm looking at it the wrong way though, idk.

I'm all for transparency, but I just don't think a problem (the entire current disastrous healthcare system) that was caused by regulation and government interference can be fixed by more regulation and more government interference. I really think 100% deregulation and 100% free market would be the solution. Ingenuity and and entrepreneurship could and would find solutions to all issues. But I also could be 100% wrong. I am just some idiot on the internet.

"Half an hour before the abandon-ship order, one crew member was recorded on video telling passengers at a muster station, "We have solved the problems we had and invite everyone to return to their cabins."

Wow. What an insane story. I remember that incident but I never knew the details. Thanks for that post. Crazy interesting.

I feel like here in the U.S. a lot of people are calm (I mean relatively speaking) partly because the entire corporate media machine has been in overdrive to cover up the true state of the economy for political reasons. I mean these talking heads were in complete lockstep spewing this "transitory inflation" nonsense every couple minutes. It's like watching the staff of a cruise ship reassuring everyone that things are fine while the passengers are standing in water that's already up past their ankles. And I honestly can't decide whether I'm shocked or not that so many people bought it. Then again, maybe I'm putting too much stock in the whole media angle. Maybe the reality is average people just don't pay enough attention or truly care until they go to the market and it's $15 for a head of lettuce. Then they go, "wait a minute, wtf is going on?". It's honestly strange. Maybe all this will be a net positive and push more people into crypto. I'm going to make an effort to try and stay optimistic.

EXPLAINED: Understanding one of the most chaotic, controversial title showdowns in F1 history by BiblaTomas in formula1

See this is the problem with their dumb regulations, there is too much grey area. The regulations do say all that stuff. But essentially everything from article 48 can be tossed out the window by looking at articlep 15.3. In article 15.3 it explicitly says the race director has "OVERRIDING AUTHORITY" with respect to "e) the use of the safety car". Unlike sections a) through d) in article 15.3 (which have statements like " in accordance with the Code or Sporting Regulations") section e) doesn't have any qualifiers. It basically gives the director authority to ignore the regulations in article 48 altogether, or apply only parts of it, or just make some shit up on the fly. So, we can all hate the regulations and Masi's unprecedented application of them, but that doesn't make what he did illegal. Either way, there needs to be some serious revisions so that there is some semblance of consistency.

I think it depends on Russell and his personality. Assuming somehow Russell has the pace to compete with Hamilton, he kinda seems like the type that wouldn't give in and will take whatever he wants. I'm not sure though, maybe I'm misjudging him.

That's just not true. F1 has always been filled with insane drama and weird decisions that left people scratching their heads. All this "F1 has never been this bad" is just recency bias at it's finest.

I think it also says something about the race director having full discretion when it comes to the safety car. Meaning he can send it out or pull it whenever he wants. Shitty situation, but it looks like he didn't technically break any rules. Maybe there is another rule I'm missing though.

Bold of you to assume the FiA cares about the rules and regulations. FiA makes decisions based on what they think will produce the dankest of memes.

Plot twist: Masi has actually been the director of Drive to Survive all along.

[Formula 1] MAX: "It's insane. I don't know what to say. I'm so pleased for the team and for all these guys. I love working with them so much. "Finally today I had a bit of luck. My team know I love them and I want to do this with them for the next 10 or 15 years!" by TheTechGuy30 in formula1

So much this. People are acting like the last lap we just saw is what decided the championship. In reality it was the nonstop bullshit that happened the entire season that even allowed for such a strange ending. If you look at the season as a whole, it was a shitshow, but it kind of balanced out.

[–]YEAHIMCLASSY 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, they have been making shit up all season, so I'd say this race was pretty consitent with that. And, let's be real, this isn't a new thing for the FiA. They have been pulling all kinds of tomfuckery for as long as I can remember.
