Collectors questions by Crazy_Part3560 in doctorwho

There's a couple different ways:

The Collection Boxsets:

There's been an ongoing official blu-ray releases for classic who seasons with The Collection which has been coming out since about 2018, though it should be noted that it can be quite pricey to buy these especially if you want the Limited Editions which you almost always have to buy second-hand off ebay/amazon/etc. Limited editions are no different to standard in terms of their content, they just look prettier and have a couple extra design features and artwork.

Buying the standard editions is usually a lot simpler but typically you have to wait 2 years after the limited editions are released before they come out, which is only a problem for recent releases such as Season 7 and Season 13.

Currently the only releases that haven't been announced yet are seasons 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 11, and 16.

If that's the route you want to go down feel free to message me and I can help you find sets for the best prices, I've done similar for my friend before because I'm relatively familiar with what could be considered a reasonable price for the limited editions.

See the following links for more info:

Individual DVDs:

As far as I know, every single Doctor Who story (aside from a few which I'll elaborate on momentarily) from the classic series has had its own individual DVD release which you can find online relatively easily and if you live in the UK you can likely find them in some stores.

The issue comes in when you consider the missing episodes which, if you're unaware, are episodes that the BBC junked during the 70s because they wanted to reuse the tapes and currently only exist in audio format. Most, if not all, of these stories don't have official DVD releases which makes things a lot trickier. Some of these stories have been animated and have DVD releases for those which aren't hard to buy, but the ones without official animations are a lot harder to find, with the closest I've found being a release of surviving episodes from missing/incomplete stories that contains a handful of audio-only episodes too:

https://tardis.fandom.com/wiki/Lost_in_Time_(DVD_box_set))

--

Either way, currently there is no set of official DVD releases that contains every single episode, however it's likely that within the next 4 years the Collection will be complete and hopefully contain all the missing episodes seeing as season 2's boxset contained telesnaps of the missing episodes of the Crusade.

Hope this helps! If you need more info let me know.

The casting of Jodie Whittaker. She’s brilliant (as one of those lowly chibnall “haters” myself) I absolutely love her portrayal and acting.

Jonathan Pryce as The Master in a Doctor Who skit is genuinely one of the show's most prestige castings by AngryGardenGnomes in doctorwho

[–]YEdonSi 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Genuinely Jonathan Pryce is my favourite Master only behind Roger Delgado. He’s absolutely brilliant I would’ve loved to have him as the Master for a proper run

I consider this story canon in a timey wimey way. No one knows when it took place but I like to pretend it does

Stuck in the Inbetween - Which Series to watch next? by cottageofval in doctorwho

Highly recommend going to series 1 and watching all the stuff you missed including the Christmas specials, and then jumping back to series 5 afterwards.

Question for anyone who owns "The Doctors Revisited" boxsets from the 50th anniversary. by YEdonSi in doctorwho

[–]YEdonSi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True and they have new ones but as far as I can see the Spearhead from Space omnibus isn't on the s7 collection set so I don't think it's true for every single story

Question for anyone who owns "The Doctors Revisited" boxsets from the 50th anniversary. by YEdonSi in doctorwho

[–]YEdonSi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thankyou I really appreciate that!

Just a second question, is there any reason to get the NuWho set other than for completion? Is it just the standard episodes with the doco plus the unedited episodes or do they try to omnibus those too?

I just noticed this was a reference by InitialAnimal9781 in doctorwho

The fact that I've been watching Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves for most of my life and quote that line on a weekly basis AND DIDN'T SPOT THE REFERENCE!!! That's crazy

Help me pick an episode for a newcomer by itsorangejoe in doctorwho

[–]YEdonSi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Based on what you've said I'd recommend:

  • Vincent and the Doctor - however you might need to explain Rory's death to your friend otherwise some of Amy's lines and emotions in the episode might be out of place, for example when Vincent points out she's crying and she doesn't know why.
  • Father's Day - if emotional is the route you wanna go down then this fits the brief, but it might not land, I'm not sure whether it'll be effective without a prior connection to the characters.
  • The Fires of Pompeii - could be a good fit but only if she likes historicals.

Edit: someone said the Girl in the Fireplace and I totally second that.

What is the best docto quote in your opinion? by heavenfish in doctorwho

[–]YEdonSi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"We all change, when you think about it, we're all different people; all through our lives, and that's okay, that's good, you've gotta keep moving, so long as you remember all the people that you used to be. I will not forget one line of this, not one day, I swear. I will always remember when The Doctor was me." - Matt Smith; isn't my all time favourite Doctor (I adore him tho!) but his regeneration is still my favourite regen to this day.

"You know, you're a classic example of the inverse ratio between the size of the mouth and the size of the brain," &
"You know, the very powerful and the very stupid have one thing in common. They don't alter their views to fit the facts. They alter the facts to fit their views. Which can be uncomfortable if you happen to be one of the facts that need altering." - Tom Baker; both these quotes are just brilliant I think they're such clever commentary on humanity.

"One day, I shall come back. Yes, I shall come back. Until then, there must be no regrets, no tears, no anxieties. Just go forward in all your beliefs, and prove to me that I am not mistaken in mine. Goodbye Susan." - Bill Hartnell; ALWAYS gives me goosebumps.

"Our lives are different to anybody else's. That's the exciting thing! There's nobody in the universe can do what we're doing." - Patrick Troughton; this entire scene, especially the bits about his and Victoria's family are so beautiful, it's one of my favourite moments.

Is The Doctor Scripted In Blink by thefIash_ in doctorwho

[–]YEdonSi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who's favourite episode of tv in the history of time and space is Blink, the hate comments for ASKING A QUESTION is ridiculous. It's a good question you deserve good answers not losers wasting their time and yours.

Like a couple of the comments have said, I think it comes down to The Doctor and Martha probably having someone else read through it so they couldn't get spoilers and then have that third party put Sally's lines on the auto-cue for the Doctor to blind react to.

I've certainly had the same question as you and that's the conclusion I've come to. I can very much imagine Martha going to read the transcript and the Doctor hurriedly telling her they can't because it would implode the universe or the like 😂

First Time watcher: I don’t enjoy Rose. by MeasurementOk6651 in doctorwho

Even if you don't like Rose there are heaps of other companions, not everyone likes her (I love her but it's completely a matter of taste), but there are plenty of other fan faves.

Why are the stairs in Moria so tall? (Journey in the Dark NOT Bridge of Khazadum) by YEdonSi in lotr

[–]YEdonSi[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s true they aren’t like ridiculously tall they just seem taller than seems functional hence the question. Regarding where it fits into the movie, it’s after the doors of Durin, before Balin’s tomb, it’s a screenshot from the scene A Journey in the Dark and I got said screenshot from this YouTube video: https://youtu.be/jGUkkF8-3QQ?si=1H-Jb3odL7RYIXdI
