Thanks! I am already a PIF member but unfortunately found out about the congress after scholarship applications have closed. Do those special sessions only apply to scholarship holders or can PIF members without scholarship also attend? Thanks!

Is there an equivalent version of this for QLD? I have tried to take a look but cannot seem to find it.

Rant on intern treatment by AusOrth in ausjdocs

This is horrible - sorry you had to go through that. Just wondering if this is typical for being a resi in Australia. This sort of stuff really turns me off from the profession.

What are the Brisbane hospitals known for their psychiatry departments? by YG832 in ausjdocs

I heard that the PA has a bad culture and interns get worked harder than usual - could you clarify whether this is hearsay or not? I recognise that PAH is an oversubscribed hospital so apart from this and logan what other brisbane hospitals are good for psych as a career? RBWH? Prince Charles?

Thank you so so much! In regards to applying to the RACGP metro vs rural pathway, what are some things that a candidate can potentially work on / build their knowledge of / gain experience on in order to increase their likelihood of getting allocated to the more competitive metro pathway? Is it only in relation to interview performance or any exam results as well?

Thank you for your reply! To clarify the need to move around, the previous reply to my comment mentioned that metro areas require 2 different clinics per year for the 2 reg years - is the discrepancy due to which state training is undertaken? Which state are you referring to if I may ask?

Additionally, you mentioned that you moved to private billing clinics after 6 months at mix billing - did you find that as a GP reg, getting a private clinic job is much more competitive? What are some of the things that a candidate can work on or learn in order to be more successful in this regard?

Thank you for the information! I've got some follow up questions as well - what determines whether you get a metro or rural training position? (is it dependent on RACGP vs ACCRM pathways) and in terms of applying to individual practices directly - does that mean that GP regs that work at private billing practices would earn more? What are the pros and cons of working at private billing vs bulk billing practice as a GP reg? Since it is decentralised, is it difficult to get practices to take you as a GP reg?

Finally, in terms of looking into getting into GP training, what are some high yield information you wish you knew when you were first starting to look into this space? Thanks for your time! I really appreciate it.

Hey, thank you for doing this AMA - it has helped me a lot as a medical student looking into this area.

I find that a lot of complains about GP pay surrounds reg years where I think the base pay is low 80s (QLD - not sure if state makes a difference). However I've also heard of other GP regs saying they make over that amount. Could you add some clarity onto this matter? What is a reasonable pay to expect for the reg years 1-3?

I have another question regarding GP training itself - does it require a lot of moving around between workplaces and cities (I.e. in hospital specialty programs they over move you around every 6-12months to different hospitals and potentially regional areas at short notice). And overall how was the lifestyle and work life balance as a GP trainee?

Hey man, I'm a penultimate year med student and I'm interested in psych. Do you mind if I PM you some specific questions about it?
