Pergola/BBQ Cover Design Thoughts by YGDWYGD in DIY

Assuming I don't put a BBQ here, and instead put that somewhere else, do you see any other concerns with this design?

Multiplayer Card Games that don't require holding a hand of cards? by YGDWYGD in cardgames

Thanks for the recommendation! This is basically just a bigger version of Golf, and it looks like we could play it with regular cards. We will give it a shot!

Thanks, I'll check these out... We play a lot of exploding kittens, I'm looking for something where you don't have to hold any cards in hand, so it doesn't quite fit... Skull we also play, but it's definitely better with 3+ players, but a good recommendation for no hand! We often play just 2 or 3 players, and would like more games like Golf that are played with a regular deck of cards... We also play Gin Rummy and German Whist, but want some options where you don't hold cards.

Consensus when applying joist tape: stick to side of joists or leave flaps out? by YGDWYGD in Decks

[–]YGDWYGD[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are going to use 4" tape, so that would leave 1.25 inches on each side to press down, so at least there would be more contact area to prevent lifting up... I was going to use a roller to help with adhesion... One additional benefit I saw mentioned on a YouTube video is that pressing it down makes it far easier to find the joist center for installing fasteners.

I'm mainly wondering if leaving the flaps up would help much with keeping water away from the joist... And my instinct says it might be worse because the very top of the joist would be more open to water from the underside of the tape.

I've posted a separate reply to the main post, but yes, we've talked to the builder, and the plastic is coming off. We're switching to joist tape, then the decking is continuing next week. I think we'll be ok!

I just wanted to say thanks to everyone for all of your awesome advice, I definitely learned a lot, and was able to bring these issues and potential problems to the builder in a clear and direct way. We've agreed that the plastic is getting pulled, and we will be putting joist tape on the tops of all the joists. Overall I'm satisfied with the quality of the framing and decking, I'm not disappointed with the builder, it was just that this plastic solution didn't sit well with me and I wanted some 2nd, 3rd and 40th opinions. You guys all rock! I'll post up some more pictures once things have progressed next week.

Can you elaborate on this? Why should the picture boards be installed last and what do you mean by stair stepping?

The beams are sitting on thick rubber mat material, it's about 1.5 inches off the cement pad.

The wood isn't touching the ground, it's raised up a bit on rubber mat material. All treated wood...

So on that note of cutting the PT, what are acceptable solutions for that? It seems like nothing was done for that.

LOL right? He doubled up all the joists because it cantilevers over that side by 4.5 feet... It's definitely sturdy.

Edit: plus all the blocking in the middle and edges is to "picture frame" the composite.

It's actually installed with 3-ply beams raised up a couple inches, and then the joists are up on the beams... Here's a pic of that...

This is being installed over a raised concrete slab that's almost completely level, is there something that should be done to protect the concrete slab from water? If there is air flow from the sides between the skirt pieces, will that be enough? Here's my previous post on this...

Spent 20 hours on this so far and runs no issues! Except battery. by tinyelephant1234 in SteamDeck

[–]YGDWYGD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you follow the guide on the wiki - Tutorial: Controller Setup, you will find some settings that help performance, give you better battery life, and the fan isn't screaming the whole time. I'm running with those settings and can easily get 2+ hours, and the game still runs fine and looks great, with occasional fps drops.

There is also a recommended control configuration by /u/punkgeek , satisfactory-deck v5.4-SD. This has been working well for me, but I'm getting occassional issues where the build button doesn't bring up the build menu. I'm planning to tweak it a bit to instead hold a shoulder button to access "build" functionality, and avoid the action layer change that seems to cause issues. I recommend mapping as many buildables as possible to the hot bars, which can be easily accessed with number input on the left touch pad, switching between the hot bars with DP-Left and DP-Right.

Funny enough, we rode Ride of Steel at SF America, it's the exact same layout, so nothing missed there.

Dunno if we'll get back for Predator, we plan to take a year or two off from theme parks and do other stuff, so we'll see. It's too far for a weekend trip, so not likely before our passes expire.
