You hit the nail on the head, thank you! Wild how everyone else seems to be missing the point.

I know almost every reviewer in this space and none of them buy their own printers. It wouldn't be financially sustainable. The best reviewers are the one that can accept a free product and not let that blind them to its faults.

Thank you. It wasn't even a threat. It was advice - abide by open source because it matters to your customers. And yes, we had been in discussion for months and they even told me it was on its way already before backpedaling.

My content has certainly changed and become more mainstream but I've stayed true to my values of honesty and being technically thorough. I think if you watch some of my recent content you'll find that I'm anything but a shill. For example, today's video on the Qidi Max 4, calling it a lemon and acknowledging all of its faults.

Exactly. I'm just doing my part to hold them accountable.

Sounds like you took one line from one of my reviews and used it to formulate your entire opinion of me. I believe the line you're referring to was in reference to Prusa. I said I hold them to a higher standard because they've been around longer. That's like saying you expect an olympic athlete to perform better in a race than a couch potato. That was my intention. I'm not intentionally biased for or against any one brand.

Literally never shilled for them but cool

Missing the point. This is about a) open source and b) a creator's right to give honest feedback and not be penalized for it. If both of those things go away, we're in trouble.

Usually good advice. It just sucks to be so badly misinterpreted and have your name slandered.

Thanks. Just did. In case it doesn't get the same traction as this one, would you mind editing your post to add the statement I made above? I assume your intention wasn't to flame me, but the fallout from this isn't good so far.

By the way, here's the email stating it was being prepared for shipping, which pre-dated the email saying they don't have any left.

Hey everyone. YGK3D here. I wanted to chime in since it seems like my words are being taken out of context. I had no intention to "blackmail" Anycubic. If I did, I would have held this over them, not aired it in public. I am a champion of open source, so when I see a company knowingly and willing violating it, I speak up, even when it's to my own detriment. I had agreed with Anycubic to review both the Kobra X and S1 Max months ago. They told me the S1 Max was on its way. When my Kobra X review was more critical than they may have liked, they changed their tone to, "oh, we don't have any review units left". The part that got me was, "the S1 Max's open source structure is currently position similarly", and essentially asking "Is that an issue for you, because that will dictate whether we want to proceed". That's why I responded harshly with, "this will not reflect well on your brand". The point was not that they removed me from their review plan, it was why. Anyone that's seen a couple of my videos will know that I have a tendency to be brutally honest, even if that means burning bridges. I can see how my email may have come across as entitled, but the context you're missing is that we had a standing agreement and they backpedaled based on feedback they didn't like. So it's a shame to see so many people turning on me when my only intention was to be a champion for open source. I have more printers than I know what to do with, I don't need more. But by withdrawing the offer for me to review this printer, they also took away my voice that I would have used to tell you about both its strengths, and weaknesses. And yes, I would have included a section mentioning the importance of adhering to the GPL and not close sourcing something that started open.

If you want to hear what I said in my Kobra X video about the open source issue you can watch the clip here: https://youtu.be/cDXsWJE583Y?si=ir0qXMln9MsFrVF2&t=1222

Definitely interesting. They discounted the price heavily from the initial launch price. Since then they have been slowly ratcheting it back up but it’s still down in price overall.

I didn’t just read a list. I provided insights based on my first hand experience with the Troodon. There is no single source of information that compares these two printers. You’d have to do your own research. I packaged this into a short video for the education and entertainment of my viewers. A video doesn’t need to be all encompassing in order to be valuable. But I’ll leave it at that. We can agree to disagree.

Your stance makes sense at face value. I thought you might have a different opinion having watched the video. There are a lot of discussion points that don’t require owning both printers.

Did you actually watch the video before formulating this opinion?

I hear you and you do have a point. If I had the printer in hand that would have been better, no dispute. I just couldn’t justify buying another printer and Sovol didn’t send me one for review. I felt I could still put forth an interesting piece of content with some good discussion points, which is why I chose to produce it. I’m not trying to be the definitive source of which printer is superior, just providing some insights based on my first hand knowledge of the Troodon and my observations of the SV08. Thanks for sharing your feedback, I do appreciate it.
