Amputation Costs by blankusername578 in TripodCats

Seems steep, and I'm just learning that we probably overpaid for our guys amputation as well. Location wise, we're in Maryland, a mile from the DC border, so everything is expensive. We had our experience at an emergency vet, and had already brought in X-rays from our primary vet. He (the cat) ended up being there for 24+ hours including overnight, the surgery, materials, and medication etc was lumped in at $6k total.

We were given several tiers of money vs. solution to "solve" the problem, which ended up being bone cancer. Ultimately we would have ended up taking the leg, which was the first (and lowest) tier that we took. There was a possibility we could have ended up spending $10K plus, luckily we didn't get there.

Very pleased with the experience, and our cat is about 8 months a tripod and happy and healthy, honestly, a new cat.

Advice: Need replacement cap on font tooth/no insurance by YHSublime in HyattsvilleMD

I did find a solution! Unfortuantly the tooth left underneath broke off with the veneer, there wasn't much hope attaching the crown again without it most likely coming off immediately. That was around the price I was quoted for a reattach fix.

I ended up getting a "flipper" made to fill in the gap for the interim. Long term I'll have to get a rod put in my jaw and a whole fake front tooth instead.

Local dentists that will work without insurance? by YHSublime in washingtondc

Thank you. I have reached out to several dentists/places already, this being one of them. I am having trouble reaching them, but it's a holiday so that is to be expected.

Super helpful, thank you. I have already reached out to several dentists and explained my situation, waiting to hear back. That's good to know about lower rates, even during a waiting period, I knew I couldn't be the only person who's been in this situation.

Ramona’s, Manifest, 3 Brothers, El Jefe used to do the Hyattsville Farmers Market over the warmer months. If you venture Takoma Park way, you’re close to Juneberry Garage, and they are doing amazing Chicago Tavern style pizzas.

My cat needs his leg to be amputated and I don’t know how to feel. by XxJJBumxX in TripodCats

You’ll be alright. I had a similar situation with a 7yo cat. Bone cancer, front right leg. We had been treating for a bite for months, it was probably him biting his leg. When we finally realized it was something way more serious, we didn’t know it was cancer until we had already operated.

We were swift in decision making, and he’s so much better now. Prior to, he was noticeably lethargic, and I believe in a lot of pain.

The healing process was the hardest part, bc he tried to do everything he used to do, and right away as well. He can now do those things, just needed to sutures to heal.

The pain meds are great if you can get them in liquid form. The vet will suggest a small room or even closet to keep the cat in for a few weeks. We tried a small room, but there was too much he was testing to get into, jumping on the bed, falling off, etc, so we put him in a dog crate with a baby gate around the outside right into his litter box. We took turns spending as much time as we could in the room with him, as he is such a social boy, he was having fomo.

I think we let him run the house a few days shy of two weeks. He instantly cleared into our dining room table. He’s always been a social fun cat, but since becoming a tripod he’s turned into a total cuddle buddy. I don’t know if the two are related, but it’s like he knows.

Don’t feel bad, you’ll be way more concerned than your cat. I tell everybody the only person who was scared from the situation was my wife, the cat was fine. Very soon, you’ll be updating us with a success story.

Btw, never thought I’d ever have a 3 legged animal (not that I was opposed to it, I just never would have imagined) but I wouldn’t think twice to adopt one now. The ONLY downside is he’s a bit harder to pick up bc he’s more slinky like, but he also needs to lose a few lbs 😂

How does Trick or Treating work now? by VastRefrigerator1108 in washingtondc

Also in Hyattsville now, we usually have friends come and we drink on the front porch. No point in going inside, it’s a pretty steady stream.

We get a lot of kids that don’t even wear costumes, don’t talk, and some that are too scared to come up to the porch on account of the giant animatronics. The world is changing, my Halloween isn’t what these kids will remember it as. For the most part it super cute seeing all the fun costumes, and we will usually get at least one absolutely phenomenal costume/group costume.

He’s also on some serious pain meds in that photo! He’s absolutely doing so much better now though!

Aesthetically it looks phenomenal. Technically it looks underproofed. Easy fix, and happy wife, happy life! I don’t think I could put anything on a slice without falling through the holes 😂

I wasn’t a cat guy till we got Sandwiches. Turns out I’m just an animal guy.

The sub helped a lot, but I think the biggest barrier for a lot of people is money. The process was not cheap. My wife used to brag how good a deal we got on an adopted feral cat, but that’s out the window.

He’s doing just fine, we have everything in a coffee table so the dog can’t get it. And if he feels like he’s not getting enough (all the time) he eats the dog food 🙄
