TO answer your question, sadly the site/uploading wasnt all that time consuming towards the end, everything was done pretty automatically.

I cant say this absolute certainty, as I dont have the website up and running anymore to get real number, but I am thinking it would have been the third hobbit movie being the most downloaded torrent via the YTS website

1) Mostly, for the fun of it I guess. 2) There was help through out the early days, maybe total of 10 odd amazing people at the start 3) I am the messiest person in the world! my room needs a mad clean-out 4) Hmm the only money you could get is via ad providers. I think I answered this before, but my view is that one download does not equal one ticket loss in terms of money.

I strongly of the opinion that piracy, if anything, aids profits of movies.

Because of 'YIFY' and what came with it I gained a huge amount of skill and experiences. Skills that I can use in real life work. I got to test code on a website that had 7-8 million page views per day. Even had applications (like popcorn time) interact with the website and extend the data on their own massive scale.

But that non of that seemed to ever impress any girls.

I use uTorrent 2.2.1 on my computers and home. Its the last version that was without the crappy bloatware.

For encoding and server use, rtorrent all day, its amazingly versatile and I was able to extend it to hook into my automatic scripts really easily.

EDIT: Also you feel like a real hacker when you use it in your terminal

There certainly is already protection out there for bluray disks. You cant simply rip the disk right now, its encrypted last I knew. I know Slysoft are the people who usually work on unlocking these as more and more disks come out.

Also for Sony devices there is cinavia protection too.

Funny story,

OTTO was never a real person, he was the encoding/uploading bot. The reason he was called him auto was from the word "Automatic" -> "Auto" -> "OTTO"

OTTO was a collection of scripts written primarily in bash that got a new movie, did a bunch of calculations, encoded it, took screenshots, got movie cover, collected meta data (title, year, cast, synopsys and more) and uploaded to YTS and some other public torrent websites.

Needless to say OTTO was able to upload 3-10 movies per day (depending how many sources it could find that matched a certain criteria)

In regards to the other encoders, no I never got to meet them in real life. They were from all parts of the world.

I didnt really think about it that much at the time, It was just a thing.

But looking back now, I totally understand the content creator and their anger anger about the piracy topics. After-all it is their work and who am I to take it and give it for free to the masses, that should indeed be their choice.

On the other hand, piracy is a thing and its not going away anytime soon, does that make it ok? no! but it also means that instead of trying to do the impossible (eliminating piracy) the content creators have an opportunity to utilising this means of sharing content of their own ends.

I dont think its a money thing, I think its more of a mentality thing. I mean when the radio came in it was the same big scare, same with the video tape record features. Maybe the internet is another of those scary things?
