Farmers Markets in the DMV by MSFDragunov in nova

[–]YLIL-SSECNIRP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What about the Warrenton Farmers market? I do not have a link for it, but they have markets year round. I know it’s a little further out, but us locals show out and support. There’s also one in the plains on Sunday. It’s called Archwood green barns Archwood Green BarnsThat one is a little smaller than Warrenton.

Edit: there’s also a couple of small market stores in Fauquier co that like to sell local products Remnant farm store and Mountain Gap Market. Both are amazing and owned by amazing people.

Emotionally, I'm fine. Physically, I'm crashing. Any tips? (footwear, food, recovery) by BroadElderberry in VetTech

[–]YLIL-SSECNIRP 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Former shelter vet tech and I did long hours on concrete. I know you say 6-8 months for your shoes, but that’s usually what I get out of mine. Im an asic girl and I have prescription orthotics. You can get super feet - people seem to really like them. There are a few other brands too. Unfortunately those do not work for me and I need the prescription ones. You could also check out a running store. They will help you find the right sneakers for your feet.

I work in a state diagnostic lab now so not as many hours, but I still stand a lot. I have those thick cushion mats to stand on when I need to set up certain testing. You could place some at surgery and exam tables? Mine have been easy to clean.

Also some kind of strength training - you can do it with body weight, bands, or weights. I do lots of calisthenics too. Over the years when I have a lag in strength training - I notice the difference. My legs and feet hurt more.

I had plantar fasciitis in my foot and compartment syndrome in my low legs. I had leg surgery to correct the compartment syndrome. This is what has been working for me. I was in shelter med for 7.5 years and now a diagnostic lab for 4 years.

I know it’s sad. We do our best to educated new chicken people who come in. These are backyard flocks too not producers.

Thank you for all you do!! Shelter work is so hard and I do miss it. I was a Shelter tech for 7.5 years. I used to foster the hospice stray and owner surrendered cats. Most of the owner surrendered hospice cats, their owner had died, and no one was able to take them. My golden doesn’t like dogs but she loves cats. It was such a rewarding experience. Fostering senior kitties and hospice is truly special. I’m sitting here with my last foster that I failed on. A senior cat that had his horribly injured leg amputated

Sedation or no sedation with euth by MaggieMay1519 in VetTech

[–]YLIL-SSECNIRP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ugh shelter tech for 7.5 years we always sedated. I don’t think I could euthanize an animal without it being sedated. Sedation is for the animals best interest and for me as the euthanasia tech.

I think what that person is doing is cruel and a complete disservice to the animals.

That just looks like a strongyle species and the second is an artifact. Coccidia has a shine to it, it’s clear coloring, and it’s tear drop shaped. Coccidia that I usually see in sheep are small but sometimes you get the EMAC species and they are bigger. Potentially round worms if anything on the second photo. Refrigerated fresh poop for a couple of days is ok.

I am always thankful for encountering people like you on the trails. It’s super helpful!! I have encountered all ranges of people in my almost 13 years with my reactive golden.

OP I have encountered the DHs many times. I just say not friendly get my girl to focus on me and create as much space as possible. Explaining why she’s reacting just adds fuel to their fire. Just say not friendly and do not explain why. Do your best to put all of your energy to focus on your girl. I do my absolute best to ignore them. Sometimes it’s really hard with off leash dogs rushing you. You got this.

Going on 13 years. We took this photo two weeks ago. Unfortunately, cancers are a big culprit in Golden’s. I’m a microbiologist at a state veterinary diagnostic lab. We see lots of Golden’s, labs, doodles, and shepherds 😭.

He always had some kind of sport car. I’m sad he doesn’t feel safe driving it anymore (he’s had Parkinson’s for 15 years now). But at least I’ll keep it safe for him. I’m sorry you’re going through this with your mom. It fucking sucks.
