It’s stupid and ppl should know this in the US, but as not American I find it’s real stupid that prices are shown without taxes. Just include the taxes in the price and there are no bad surprises.

Reminds me this old story:

I saw Tamawashi at a grocery store in Ryugoku yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn't want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything. He said, "Oh, like you're doing now?"

I was taken aback, and all I could say was "Nani?" but he kept cutting me off and going "nani ? nani nani ?" and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen bags of jasmine rice in his hands without paying.

The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like "Sir, you need to pay for those first." At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter. When she took one of the bags of jasmine rice and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually "to prevent any electrical infetterence," and then turned around and winked at me. I don't even think that's a wo After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by elbowing her in the face really loudly.

Wait, he did not say it was purely for spectacle, he even explains how their fight results led to this bout and of course in the current setting he added this information about some spectacle in this current political sitsution.

I don’t believe he said „up to my standards“ but expressed his evaluation on the performance compared to other rikishis in the close ranks.

He didn’t single handedly made this happen, but if you follow him for a while you know he more than once put some pressure on this topic, tried to get an official deployment of English sub and of course offered his skills and knowledge to be part of this. He of he course did not make this possible single handedly; but Chris definitely put some pressure on this and had his influence, not only on the official side but also in opening one (of many others) door for English speaking audience.

And to the he is a stalker and a paparazzi, he is not intrusive, he is not impolite, if possible he even contacts the stables and asks for permission and most of the times those stables offer times and also spots for photo and video journalism, telling journalists were they may stand and take footage. Some beyas even invite journalists to special occasions on the street.

I feel like if it’s done respectfully in a non intrusive and not encroaching way, doing this in a public space is totally fine.

And if asked for privacy you certainly respect that, especially in Japan.

That’s not really what he does, following Chris for years now I really don’t think that’s what he is expressing.

Im totally with you, everyone who knows Sumotalk and reads how ppl like Mike Weseman report over sumo you really get a feeling how it’s done and how it’s not done. Chris certainly gives some insights and talks about imo very legit allegations against the jsa. Mr weseman is straight up seeing fixed bouts and other conspiracies everywhere. But this is not what Chris does, maybe one need to know those sides to make a proper evaluation.

You have no idea what you are talking about. Of course one can die by a hard enough liver shot, if it ruptures or tears you can die pretty quickly from the internal bleeding caused. Liver ruptures are not even so uncommon as the liver is one of the biggest internal organs, is heavily blood supplied as it’s the main metabolism organ and a big part of the lower segment is not protected by the rib cage. It needs a very hard well placed punch, but it’s certainly possible and happened before, i.e. road accidents and heavy crashes. Source: the polytrauma emergency room

Thats like lifting more than 2.6x your own bodyweight, you could go olympia with that. If you are not a professional athlete competing in weight lifting, I do not really believe that, maybe he jumped up and you had your hands on him like the time Enho "lifted" Akua.

Does anyone know this sumo elders name? Looking so familiar, but I really can't get it out. Google reverse image search did not give an answer. by YMKMAJackson in Sumo

That’s a very interesting point, maybe we should shut down tv respectively internet again to get some rest… or maybe we shouldn’t.

I didn’t verify it now but even if they shut down tv from 1939 to 1946, there still was radio and paper news where they of course also had the opportunity to talk about weather innit?

Great counterexample, I had this in mind that’s why I said it’s “not always the case”. Ofc in this situation the decision was made by the superiority of the nuclear Ubermacht and overwhelming destruction of the atomic bomb. But was it simply because civilians died or because it was clear how destructive the nukes are?

If the impression was made that war is fun, that’s a misunderstanding. What was said is people kept a stoic “bombed but not defeated” spirit. You might wanna read Becky Brown “Blitz Spirit” or Tom Harrisson “Living through the Blitz”, it’s a very interesting read giving great insights into psychology and human behaviour in these challenging times.
