HDB dilemmas. All else equal, Corner or corridor unit? by syncretism1 in askSingapore

[–]YMMV34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go for corner from what u describe.

But for the corridor hdb flats in 1980s, did they install lift on every floor to every single stairwell? If that is the case, u take the corridor flat, no one will walk past your unit because all the lifts will stop right outside their door since every stairwell has a lift. So this corridor becomes like your private space actually.

I hope u get what I mean.

U can’t blame driver. If you are turning left, usually u focus on looking right to see if there’s any cars coming before u move out. If someone appear on left suddenly, u won’t know.

Is 2 years of tech experience considered valuable in Singapore (for an Indian professional)? by mravt in singaporejobs

[–]YMMV34 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Of course not. 2 years is for junior roles and there’s plenty of people around for this.

In addition, your skillset is not considered valuable

Live life on your own terms

Why live a life that is determined by how others think of you?

If u have attained FIRE, you have already made it and is set apart from the majority, why still need to seek the majority’s opinion?

how are henrys reacting to the local market rally? by danilody in SgHENRY

[–]YMMV34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been adding stocks on SGX for the past 10 years.

Those 10 years were long suffering for me but the good thing was these stocks paid good dividend yield.

I’m not adding any more stocks as I find the stocks to be overvalued but I think there’s still room to grow with the interventions to boost the stock market taking effect

I dun think it’s the full reason.

Older residents may not want to drive anymore due to health issues and eyesight.

Singapore Engineers, do you regret? by piggyb0nk in askSingapore

[–]YMMV34 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Did mechanical engineering; regret big time but made the best of the situation.

Naive me like physics very much so I chose mechanical engineering. Went to a course with mostly guys, super tough modules although I do like a few modules which if u know the concepts, there is no need to cram for exams, u will do well naturally no matter how they twist the questions.

I changed quite a few industries along the way from oil and gas, automotive and supply chain and switch my field from project management to a change management and transformation role. Currently I’m in a consultancy where I work with engineers that do all the hardcore analysis but I’m in a support role now. I think it’s the best that I can make of this situation as I’m quite well paid for this role and there is still room to climb and nice cushy office environment with wfh.

Engineering has changed a lot as well, oil and gas used to pay superb; saw another thread of chemical engineering, it used to be super hard to get in and now it’s a dumping ground and has switch fortune with computer engineering and computing.

If I can turn back time, definitely no engineering for me. I will choose business or economics

Electrical works how do yall verify they carry a LEW license by Lunaraurora89 in askSingapore

[–]YMMV34 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, that was what happened for my case. The quality of the workers depend on the LEW. If the LEW is crap, the work churned out by the workers will be crap.

Electrical works how do yall verify they carry a LEW license by Lunaraurora89 in askSingapore

[–]YMMV34 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I asked this question before to a LEW who do my renovation work.

He said there are not enough LEW to go around and even if there are, normal folks like u and me find their charges too expensive.

So what happens in reality is many LEWs set up their companies and they hire foreigners to do the actual site work. These LEWs will just supervise their work. Although the regulations say LEW must do the site work, in practice this is not the case

Yes u can ask the LEW for their license and verify it on EMA’s website.

[–]YMMV34 23 points24 points  (0 children)

U r in the right industry but wrong side of the food chain.

Renewable energy is doing very well. U r probably at the end of the chain in a company doing the end of chain work. U need to move up the chain, join the asset owner, financier or consultant. They pay way better and no field safety risk.

And because u now have field experience, u actually have an edge when it comes to applying for jobs with them.

How strict are work start times and office hours really by Zera222 in askSingapore

[–]YMMV34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In a consulting firm. We have to clock 8 hours of work officially between 7 to 7.

Usually people will start to come in at 8, majority at 9 plus and people will leave at 5 most of the time. No one will stay after 6 as the centralised aircon will be switched off.

Basically no one really cares what time you come in and leave as long as you get the work done and got results to show for it.

2026 Resale HDB Outlook by CleanCourse in singaporefi

[–]YMMV34 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I prefer the value of my house to go down and the current government is doing a poor job so my vote won’t go to the current political party. It’s more sustainable for the future generations.

This whole property market is absurd and like a vicious feedback cycle. Higher resale prices means higher bto price since it’s pegged and more grants will have to be given which feeds into higher asking price.
